she fell into a hole at the beach. how did she get out?

It was a metaphor for what was going on or something I don´t know but the most of the movie wasn´t a reality and the part in the hole was not.

I thought she jumped out the bottom hole into the ocean and swam to a beach further up.

I guess she waited for the tide to come in, so she could swim to the top of the hole.
