possibly the worst film ever
read the topic....
am i alone in thinking this
hopefully you are. this isn't a bad film at all. there are MUCH worse movies out there than this one.
shareMaybe not the worst film I ever saw but not a fan at all.

It's a dogme 95 film so it's not going to be your typical feature. It's weird. It takes a while to grow on you if you aren't used to the dogme style.
sharei think it's brilliant
shareThis is definately one of the worst films ever, its beats eye wide shut and that say something!
shareI really liked this movie!
sharePeople who don't understand movies shouldn't comment on them.

must agree with jesusclownies. It's brilliant, love the subtle humour (or wasn't it meant to be funny?)
share...or maybe your are thinking about the first dogme movie with a similar title - 'Festen' (the celebration) which could also be translated to the party. Quite a different film, mainly since it is Danish and done with a handheld camera and minimal postproduction

I'll have to agree with shady000.
Maybe it would help by saying WHY you hated the movie
The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed
Does the reason that Anniversary Party is not one of those mainstream-movies, that makes this wonderful movie so bad then? Maybe, but I've always loved movies which are a bit different, and AP is one of them.
shareI agree. i found the movie really creative and individual. i liked the fact that it was done on a digital camera. it made the movie feel more like a home video. i really liked the scenes with the whole cast together having fun. i thought it was neat that the entire cast was cumming and leigh's friends and even their pets. it was really interesting to see how this movie turned out. i agree that since it wasnt mainstream that people dont give it enough credit.
YOU'RE SALLY NASH!!!
I would have to agree. I felt annoyed by all of the characters and their vanity. Usually when you have a study of the decadence of hollywood and of celebrities in general there is one or more characters who are not rich/famous/decadent and are looking into the fishbowl at all of the ridiculaous drama that ensues (i.e. the Great Gatsby, L.A. Confidential, even shows like the O.C). When every character is rich/famous/decadent than the film comes acros as too self-important, too self referential, to frivolous. I got so sick of seeing jennifer JAson-Leigh looking frustrated and angry, I honsestly thought that she was trying to pass a kidney stone throughout the entire movie. Just a terrible film
Also, what is dogme?

I thought the movie was pretty boring the first time I watched it, but tonight, I watched it for the second time and I enjoyed it. I think all of the characters were arrogant and obnoxious, but as the movie progressed, they began to fall apart. They all saw each other for who they truly were... except for Gina (Beal's character). Sally still looked at her as this dangerous woman could control her husband. I think she feared that he would leave her for Gina. So Gina remains "too sure" of herself in the eyes of Sally... and maybe you.

it's quite an endearing movie actually .
great cast
obviously the guy starting this thread did it out of irony
but an honest attempt at trying to deliver cinéma
is way better
than every Hollywood tripe
hustling for a buck .

I absolutely agree. I love a good independent film, I love a movie with dialogue and plot. I love movies that are different, that make me feel like I'm one of the guests.
What I don't like is how I was supposed to feel sorry for these people. I don't. How can I? I was so disappointed in Kevin and Phoebe putting their kids in a movie where people are dropping X in the next room, they're kids!
Why in world would Sally want to be with a person who doesn't even know what sexuality he is and continually cheats on her? How am I supposed to feel bad for her?
Self-indulgent is an understatement. This movie was obviously about a world I don't want to be a part of, will never be a part of, only made for people who are part of this world. It's a sad, sad place to be in. Maybe it's a morality tale - become famous and look what it gets you.
I liked the way it was filmed, I liked that all the toasts were off the cuff, I liked that intricate relationships between the characters but that's it. The rest of it was snuff.

How 'bout the a**hole screaming 'you stupid *beep* during the game of charades ? No one really reacts. I couldn't stand these people - I'd be dead (by my own hand) or in jail for a life stretch if I had to spend an evening with these twits.
shareI'm one of the people that would have to disagree with you. I was completely entranced by this film (being in the entertainment industry myself, I recognize elements of these characters in the people I know) and managed to follow every storyline without problems. I found it by pure fluke (I was looking for a film with a similar title, and picked this up by mistake) and it has become one of my all-time favourites.
shareAbout halfway through, I HATED it!!
By the time it was over, I kinda liked it.
For me it was, well... 5 out of 10. Not awful, but far from great. I thought it was a little cliché, the dialogues weren't quite good enough, the acting was OK, but not fantastic. But most importantly maybe, the story just wasn't that interesting to me.
