The theme song

Does anyone here know the name of the classical piece that plays at the end of every episode (with the exception of And The Truth Shall Make You Free)?

reply

I was also wondering that. It sounds sort of like 'Fanfare for the Common Man', but they're not the same musical score. I'll check the credits in one of the episodes to find out.

reply

I was thinking "Fanfare" also, but they probably just ripped it off so that they could use a similar musical theme, and not have to pay licensing rights.

reply

did you ever find out what it was? it's such a cool song, and i have no idea where to look to find it...

reply

I am still seeking the specific arrangment of " Fanfare For The Common Man " as heard on the 1988 series " The Men Who Killed Kennedy ". Is it available on CD?

reply

I hope someone has an update. It appears as though 'Fanfare For the Common Man' is the closest thing to it. However I think there is a variation that isn't used exclusively in the Men Who Killed Kennedy (oddly I heard on a 'Chapelle's Show' skit from 2003, I believe).

reply

I believe that the theme song is "Summon The Heroes" by John Williams. Sounds like it anyway.

reply

I just listened to both Fanfare for the Common Man and Summon The Heroes and although they are similar the piece Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland is what is represented in this documentary.

reply

It definitely isn't the exact same piece. There are similiar. The Kennedy theme was produced by someone else because I've heard it other places.

reply

I, too ,have long been searching for this moving piece of music, and like others, thought it similar to Copland's Fanfare. However, it is not Fanfare for the Common Man as I have listened to numerous versions . Again, it is quite similar, but if you have any doubts, listen to ELP's version of Fanfare on their Works I album, [cd I guess].
I will continue my search & if anyone does find it, please post !

HI Guys

I too have been searching for the music, it's an excellent piece and must be available somewhere! It's obviously based on 'Fanfare' but clearly different, oh well, the search goes on...

The odd thing is there's no mention of a composer at all in the credits. This would suggest that it's a piece of stock music owned by the producers and probably not composed for the prog. shame they're not credited.

ever find the name of the men who killed kennedy theme? I hear pbs using it now for a commercial for the memorial day concert. too bad the documentary while gripping is full of falsehoods.

reply

No one's found it yet?

reply

I just watched the end credits; a composer named Dave Hewson is credited for the score.

EDIT: I apologize; he scored all the other documentary follow-ups that took place, but I didn't know if he scored the first miniseries; worth asking him -- has a website.

The same piece of music is used during The Girl Next Door, towards the end just before Baba O'Rily is played. Nothing in the credits for it though.

reply

It's called "Arlington Fanfare" and its in iTunes.

reply

The composer, Graham de Wilde, is British.
