How's the dubbing done?

I notice that some people in it speak English and are dubbed over into French in the French/Canadian version I have.


But here's a scene with John Malkovich, clearly speaking English, being dubbed into French. I can tell he's dubbed, but I can't tell if Christian Clavier is speaking in English as well.


And in some scenes, it looks as though they're speaking English and are dubbed over, and in others they are speaking French clearly


So how was the miniseries actually filmed? Was it done entirely in English, with a French dubbing? Or with scenes filmed in both English and French for certain characters? Or did they film it as they did with "Danton", with the native English speakers speaking English and the native French speakers speaking French, then dub it appropriately for its English/French release?
