Am I the ONLY one???????

Am I the only one who thought this movie totally sucked?????????
As much as I love Lee Evans I found this movie so incredibley boring.
Ive only just finished wathcing it...it was on TV like 10 minutes ago and quite frankly...I should have gone to bed.
Im not saying that Lee Evans isnt a great actor (as well as the funniest comedian EVER - woo Bournemouth here we come!) I just think this moved sinks and does nothing for him.
I rest my case.

Well I watched it too last night and all I can say is that it was a mess. It could have been so good, but parts of the dialogue just made me cringe. As a portrayal of a typical worthless scum-bag family it was spot on. But trying to give them redeeming features was just so embarrassing. Hearing Cathy Burke describe them as a "beautiful" family was nauseating. Where is the beauty in people who are not much more than animals ? Foul mouthed, ignorant sh*t-bags. The sort of people that parts of Britain are now awash with. The sort of people who make other people's lives a total misery. Were we supposed to warm to them ? A slag Mother, Daughter and Granddaughter and an *beep* Father? What an up-lifting ending too. A whole family of self-perpetuating scum, living the rest of their poxy lives on benefit that is paid for from the money my family pay in stoppages. And it would appear that running around threatening everybody with guns, robbery with violence and kidnap carries prison sentence of about 2 years.

PS - How long do you think they would have stayed in that Isle of man cottage once the drink and fags had run out ! (And there was no telly)

reply

Yeah! And when Robert comes back from being in prison the baby only looks about 1 and I reckon he would get more than a year for putting guns to peoples heads on many occasians, tying 2 people up in the basement and the police are lead to believe that he has just killed somebody because of the blood on hands.

I can believe that.

This movie is just ok. It is watchable if there is nowt else on. But, and I love him dearly, Lee Evans is completely mis-cast in this movie. Kathy Burke is brilliant, it is exactly her type of film and she was brilliantly cast, but putting Lee Evans in the Robert role is just ludicrous.

Don't get me wrong, Lee is my favourite comedian of all time, and he is (although not primarily) a great actor, but this is not his movie at all. I can think of a dozen actors that would have headed the cast better.

Still, it's enjoyable in its naivety. Worth a look if it's on.

Funny you should say that, but I reckon the bloke who played Marvel the clown would have been perfect as the dad. Ray Winstone I think it was, he had a cameo in a film right up his street. He may have made it to "realistic" and less funny tho, then we really would have been watching chavs. I do like the odd funny chav.

On every IMDB message board there is always someone that starts a post entitled Am I The Only One [that doesn't like this film]. And then flows the usual sour garbage from the usual handful of people. This movie was fantastic. Lee Evans is totally convincing. The tale is gritty working class reality not "chav" culture. Deal with this reality and stop pretending we are not all part of it ourselves.

There's always a temptation with movies like this that 'they cannot be this bad so they must pick up' and then they don't. This came into this category.
Please excuse sounding smug but I was ahead of you here - and that is unusual for me! I could tell within the first 10 minutes how awful this would be so did what NBYB182 regrettd not doing - I switched off!

I gotta say that it really wasn't as good as I thought it'd be. Lee Evans and Kathy Burke in a film sounded great to me cause I'm a fan of them both. I did enjoy the start of it, but for me it just got worse. Don't take it the wrong way, cause I have seen MUCH worse, but I've also seen much better too.

If you switched off, then you aren't certain that it WAS awful - you're only assuming...

It seems that some people saw Lee Evans and Kathy Burke and thought "This is going to be hilarious". I might suggest reading a bit into a film before watching it, if it's going to make angry when you realise it's not what you were expecting.

This film gives a good look at the struggles of a working class family who want better but are looked down upon by the middle class. Sure it goes to some extremes but it is after all a comedy; just not one that you seem to have been expecting.
