Am I the only one that enjoys…

This film. Maybe a guilty pleasure but I can’t think of a more exciting and entertaining dragon film. And yes I know it’s a bit ott. Anyone else got love for it?

It's definitely worth seeing, similar to the 80's Mad Max films, but without the comic book goofiness. It's a solemn, grey tale with a quality cast, convincing sets/costumes and surprisingly effective CGI. I gained greater respect for McConaughey as he is unrecognizable as the bald combative and loses himself in the role. Unfortunately, the storytelling is weak. It's just not that compelling, which isn't helped by the mumbled dialogue and ambiguities (I suggest using the subtitles). Still, if the viewer can adapt to the viewer-unfriendly style, there's a lot to appreciate.

I think this is one of MM best roles ever. He’s perfect as the alpha male and appears to have taken this part more seriously than most of his other trite. The cgi is surprisingly good for that time period as well.

Comic book goofiness? If comic book goofiness means having at least a little bit of sense of humor, as compared a dark and uncompelling forgettable CGI fest like Reign of Fire, then I'll take the Road Warrior every time.

I went to see RoF all alone when it was in the theaters in 2002, much to the dismay of my girlfriend at the time who seemed horrified by my bad taste. I loved monster movies as a kid and really wanted to like this, but it bored me to death. It was the flip side of another film of that era that I also disliked (much more, actually), Deep Blue Sea, which went way overboard with dumb comedy and had CGI that is among the worst put to film. I'll give this to RoF: the special effects were okay and I'll take the serious approach over the excessively comedic one in a monster film. It's main problem is that it was predictable and the lead actors have absolutely no pizazz at all. Bale has been dull since American Psycho and McConaughey's down south good ol' boy with wisdom routine wears thin quickly.

Darn, I own the blu-Ray and the digital copy. I enjoyed it. I get it that it’s not perfect but for a dragon movie pretty good

I agree with what you say about RoF, which is why I said "the storytelling is weak. It's just not that compelling, which isn't helped by the mumbled dialogue and ambiguities." However, if the viewer can look beyond this there's quite a bit to respect & maybe cherish if you're up for a solemn, grey tale that's not comic booky like the Mad Max trilogy. It's like reading fiction books: You have to adapt to the author's unique style and presentation to appreciate the piece. If you can't, you wont.

I SAW IT IN THE THEATER WITH MY MOM...I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

reply

Um, Dragonslayer says hello...

reply

Ru talkin bout Dragonslayer 1981? I haven’t seen it…

reply

"Dragonslayer" is totally different; it's sorta like "Jaws" in a Medieval kingdom, albeit with a dragon. It's worth seeing for sure and the dragon effects still kick axx.

reply

Check it out. The dragon design in this film (and most others made after 1981)were heavily influenced if not outright stolen from Dragonslayer. Not to mention the ending battle was amazingly good.

reply

Will do, thx.

reply

Oh wow thanks for the recommendation. I had no idea it was kinda based on the videogame, which I absolutely adored. Watching it now.

reply

Ok so I think I figured out my preference for ROF over all other dragon movies. I do not like the magic/witchcraft aspect that is so present in the other films. Even though I loved Dragonslayer the game I still have not been able to finish watching the movie. I do appreciate your suggestion though.

reply

You should at least watch the end scene. It's worth it.

reply

Ok will do.

reply

Nope sorry bro. I watched that last 30 minutes and I still have no love for this.

reply

I saw it in Theater and own the DVD. It's fun.

reply

Nope. It not a great movie but it's certainly entertaining 6.5 or 7/10. Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey vs dragons... what more can you want? A star wars play? This movie certainly is a hidden gem these days.

CGI is pretty good IMO for it's release date and budget.

reply

Right, my thoughts too. Directed by Rob Bowman. “Who’s in charge here!!?.” Is my fav scene.

reply

It's a true work of art.

DRAGONSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssss

reply

Ugggh. Not a fan, same with Harry Potter.
