To me Mike is just a big, nasty bully. I think they have him down as "Conduct Disorder" but I find it tough to believe they would put that big, dangerous guy in with other young people. The others have problems certainly but they might be managed if Mike wasn't there 24 hours a day calling them names and threatening to beat them up.
shareAbusive behaviour is a learned behaviour. The people who ran this facility believed they could help him un-learn what was done to him. We see Dr. Monroe (Don Cheadle) get to that in the therapy he was doing with them as a group. Lyle (who also acted out violently after being abused himself) was able to walk away from Mike after learning from Dr. Monroe. Unfortunately, the next time Mike confronted Lyle, Lyle was not able to restrain himself. But we did see progress. Chad and Kenny also acted out in physical ways, so Mike and Lyle were not the only two in this facility who had issues with physical abuse.
