Don Cheadle's breakdown

Do you know where I can find his monolouge? Unfortunately, it's not in the memrobale quotes section. Thanks in advance.

That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age.

It wasn't a breakdown. He wasn't losing it. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Really?? He knew exactly what he was doing?? So why did he regret picking up the cigarette and almost lighting it. Was that part of the plan to show the kids how to act when you really crave something? He lost it, plain and simple. That's why he apologized to Lyle. That was a great scene though.

I was trying to determine whether David Monroe lost his cool with Lyle or if he intended to do what he did, as well. I think he indeed lost his mind at that moment when he flipped out at Lyle (especially when you pointed out that he almost smoked a cigarette afterward before putting it down, indicating that he had quit smoking but then almost relapsed into it, and apologizing to Lyle for his outburst), but I think he knew in his mind what he was doing even while he was experiencing that breakdown: he intended to show Lyle that acting out of rage, hitting others and breaking things accomplishes nothing nor fixes any problems right away, and I hope that made sense.

reply

I think David Monroe's outburst was spontaneous, but at that moment, he thought to himself, should I let go and do what I feel...to set an example to these kids? He hadn't planned it before that meeting started, but at that moment he thought, if I show them how I feel, how angry I get...and how it doesn't help in the long run...then they will learn something. So Dr. Monroe did break down, but he knew what he was doing and there was a point to him losing it...a "method to his madness" so to speak.

Yes. You hit the nail right on the head, and that is exactly what I was getting at and the point I made in my previous post.

Its the one of the best scenes in the film. It completely grabbed me by the throat. It should definetely be in the memorable quotes section. IMDB... get it added!

*** Somebody asked for the Don Cheadle quote. Myself included wanted it on here. Here it is ***

Sit down right now, Lyle!

OK. Do you feel better now?
Did you fix Kenny now?

Is Kenny all better now?

How about you,
you all better now?

Do you think you're the only
one who gets pissed off...

and wants to *beep* rage?
I can break *beep*

I can scream
like a *beep*

All day long!

Now what?

Kenny's still *beep* up,
and I'm still miserable.

I guess I gotta
break some more *beep*

Get up, Lyle.
Get up right now, Lyle. Get up!

OK?

Didn't work.
I'm still pissed off.

Maybe I need to *beep*
something else up now, huh?

Maybe I need to punch somebody
in the *beep* face!

Is that the solution?

No, that ain't
the solution, man.

So what do I do?

I just get on
with my *beep* life...

and I try to make
something of it.

Why are you here, man?

Why are you alive?

Do you want to be alive?

Life is a struggle, Lyle.
That's it.

It's a struggle.
That's the way it *beep* is.

Can you handle that?

Can you handle that, Lyle?

I'm gonna be in my office.

You guys sit here
and figure out why you're here.
