Did they kill the jewellery shop workers?

I got the impression that the fluid in the coffee was just a drug that made them drop to sleep, but the violent way they seemed to be laying down, as well as the ready to use gun on the undrugged female worker gave the impression they were dead.
Were they dead?

I don't think so. I think they were just knocked out. Otherwise why go to all the trouble of Pidgeon working in the coffee shop so she could drug them. Why not just charge in and shoot them?

Hackman seems distressed when he sees the woman still awake. And he balks when Mickey suggests he should have 'popped' her later. They do things cleanly, so they leave less damage behind. That's why he uses the taser on her and NOT a gun.

yes, thats how it seemed to me, but with the ruthless efficiency of the shoot-out on the pier made me think again. The first job made them look ruthless but as the film went on, it showed them in a humane way that we came to like........as though the scriptwriters changed their minds.
Reminded me of Clooney & Tarantino in Dusk to Dawn........horrid and ruthless killers/rapist........but we warmed to them in the middle of the film.

No they weren't dead, they were just out cold. They don't ever want to be done for murder along with armed robbery. We know this because later Danny DeVito's character says "You should of popped the girl" as in kill the female worker.
