I think it's awesome that this made it into the top 250. It's a testament to how millions of people feel about the movie, and a bunch of pouting teenagers shouldn't change that. That brings me to my question:
Where can I get an R1 or R0 DVD of this film?

yeah, when i read about this movie,immediately looked up for a region 1 ntsc or region o ,as long as it is ntsc but there is none.common,turks release this on dvd format so that the entire world can better appreciate your movies,if they really are good ones as you portray them to be. great movies are still great even if they are available only in their own language but with subtitles. i think criterion is planning to release this one?
shareWell, as a en-tr and tr-en translator, i do not recommend this sort of culture-specific film for foreigners, not only it impossible to "translate" it into another language but also it has no way to be understood by those who are not familiar (or spent many years) with Turkish culture.
However, if you are too curious about what it is like, surely you may try to give it a go but it is very very hard to find this film (and other series of this one) on dvd or on any format. Because most of us only watched them on TV channels (they are so popular that almost all channel try to boradcast one of these series.
Edited: I have just found that it has dvd versions on this link http://www.tulumba.com/storeItem.asp?ic=VI343638WA473 but never got the opportunity to watch any of these dvds, so i do not know what are the subtitles like but believe me this is a non-translatable film in terms of both dialogues and jokes.
You got to wait for a while until they realize how important these movies are for Turkish people. Well, this is a classic and need more attention. By the way, i got to say for those who has been just thinking that some teenagers gave loads of 10s and made this movie so "attractive" on imdb. Hell nope! You are wrong, almost all Turkish people who like comedy like this film, believe me most of us saw it zillion times on TV and it still makes us laugh and feel happy.
A film can only be called classic if it goes beyond the limits of time and place, I mean if a film is admired when both it was released first and now, if it was admired both in US, and Japan, and Turkey, and Iran, Argentina, Austarlia (shortly in all different cultures/places), then we may call it classic. However, Hababam Sinifi is classic only in terms of Turkish people/culture, almost every one from diferent parts of Turkey and almost all people in different ages admire this film (though some find it crap, well some find pulp fiction crap too, right? )
So, there is a slight possibility for foreigners to be able to like this movie but most of them cannot even smile just for once while seeing this film, most reactions are like this "what does this mean?, what the hell is that?...etc.". You should know this before seeing and please please do not put a blame on us for liking such a movie, you cannot understand what it means for Turkish people unless you are Turk.
I'm sure there are many non-Turks that would love this movie too.

It isn't translated very well so I'll have to clean up the English and write it all down (which will take forever since the movie is almost nonstop dialogue) before I post the English translation somewhere. Incidentally, it wasn't that funny...
