How was it possible for them to walk so far?

Damn, I get blisters after a few miles and yet these three young girls walked across desert terrain for hundreds of miles for 9 weeks with no proper shoes or reliable food/water supply or protection from the elements... Don't think even Bear Grylls could do that! But it's a true story so I guess it happened
