Why was Moodoo's daughter at the camp?

Since the camp was for half-caste children, then it'd be right to assume that Moodoo's daughter was half-caste as well.

To me, Moodoo didn't look to have any white ancestry at all. So the mother was white? If he was a half-caste, then wouldn't they give him a better job or something?

I don't know about the race situation between the white people and the Aborigines, but if it was quite similar with the one in the US (during the Martin Luther King era), then wouldn't Moodoo be killed for sleeping with a white woman?

I was wondering about the same thing!

I am not sure how it worked in Australia, but in most colonies a situation of a native man with a white woman relationship were so rare, almost inexistant, while native women/white men were more common.

I am not sure whether Moodoo's daughter could have a white motherat all.

The possibility I saw was that the the girl was already a second generation half-cast. I assume her mother, moodoo's wife (?), already being a half-cast, had a white father, therefore the girl would only have 1/4 of a white blood in her, but she would still be forced to stay in the camp.

Because I am sure they just did not take half caste kids. They probably took kids who looked half caste too. I mean we are talking about a diabolical act of genocide here. Do you think they actually played by the rules?

Not a bad point, and some native Australians are blond. Although the "3/4 caste" theory works, too.

TY. IMO it is either they are not playing by the rules. And they took who they wanted. Or it is free room and board for a workers kid.

Obviously Moodoo had sex with a white woman.

I think it's more likely that the child was born to a half-caste woman who was in a relationship with Moodoo. Then again, when you first meet him, it's said that Moodoo's probation was up, so it could be plausible that he may have been "on probation" for having sex with a white woman.
