I was disappointed they didn't put more in the DVD as to the history and context. At some level, the "Bojangles" came through as compelling as Jack Johnson, yet just still barely on the tipping point of our generational memories and cultural context. Buy the DVD provided nothing even along the lines of an editorial by the director on the historical context ... just a few interview snipets about "tap".

I want to know whether they just make up the part about Robinson breaking the "black face" rule? The peaceful, almost comical, passing of blackface as part of the enlightened Canadian reprive was in start contrast to Minstrel Man (1977), which is also an inspirational film but with no clear historical pretentions.
