Today we review Wrestlemania 11. One of the less popular manias, this was a bad year for the WWF.

Match 1: Allied Powers Vs The Bleu Brothers. What a waste to have Lex and Davyboy
in an opening tag match against the Bleu Brothers. WWF must have been desperate to put these two jobbers in a Wrestlemania match. Standard tag match. Lex and Bulldog own first part. Bleu's take over and then it breaks down. Lex and Bulldog beat the brothers in short order at 6:10. Feh 1 star.

Match 2: IC Championship Match: Jeff Jarrett Vs Razor Ramone. Razor lost the IC title to Jarrett back at the Royal Rumble. Monsoon interviews Jarrett backstage and has some funny dialouge with Jarrett. Man I miss Monsoon. Razor comes in fired up and starts laying into Jarrett. Roadie gets nailed by Ramone for interfering. Jarrett takes over and uses some dropkicks and puts on a reverse chinlock. Jarrett tries a sleeper but Razor starts fighting back, Razor catches Jarrett witht the fall away slam, but cannot get the pin. 1-2-3 kid tries to wrap Jarretts legs around the posts but Jeff pulls him into the post. He's down for at least 8. Jarrett takes over and starts working on the leg. Jarrett puts on the figure four and Razor ain't near the ropes. Razor reverses the figure four and Jarrett releases it. Razor sets up Jarrett for the belly to back suplex off the second rope. Razor can't make the pin because his knee is bothering him, Razor tries the razors edge and gets Jarrett up but the Roadie interferes at the last section drawing a DQ at 13:31. The Kid runs in and starts attacking Jarrett and Roadie. They turn it around and start kicking the s*** out of him. The officials come running in to chase Jarrett and the Roadie. Jarrett's got a busted nose, cheap ending. 2 stars.

Match 3: Undertaker Vs King Kong Bundy. Bundy attacked Undertaker at the 1995 Royal Rumble and helped steal the Undertakers urn. Bundy charges and misses Taker starts hammering on Bundy. Taker quickly goes up and walks the second rope, but Bundy is still standing. Paul Bearer gets the urn back temporarily until Kama beats up Paul and takes it back. Kama says he is going to melt it down and make jewelry out of it. Bundy takes advantage and starts chocking Taker on the ropes. Bundy gets the avalanche but no affect on the Undertaker. Taker bodyslams Bundy then hits the flying clothesline for the pin in 6:16. Yeesh 1 star.

Funny segment with Bob Backlund. Who's Pamela Anderson? Hahahaha

Match 4: Tag Team Title Match Smokin Gunns Vs Owen Hart and a mystery partner. Owen introduces his partner. Yokozuna who from this point on was past his prime. Smokin Gunns own it until Yoko drops a big leg accross billys head. Owen takes Billy outside and rams him back first into the ring post. Yoko hits
the banzai drop on Billy but Bart breaks the pin. Yoko dumps Bart outside the ring and Owen makes an easy pin for his very first championship at 8:45. 2 stars.

Match 5: I Quit Match: Bret The Hitman Hart Vs Bob Backlund. Rowdy Roddy Piper is introduced as the guest referee. Hart goes for a quick sharpshooter but Backlund gets to the ropes. Bret gets the figure four but Backlund says no. Bret keeps working on the legs. Bret puts on the sharpshooter again, but Backlund still gets to the ropes. Bret sends Backlund to the corner and misses a charge and hits the steel post. Backlund sets up and puts on the cross face chicken wing. Bret grabs the rope but Backlund pulls him off. Bret reverses the hold and gets the crossface on Backlund. Backlund says yes which I thought was questionable because it was hard to tell if he said yes. Bret wins the match in 9:37. Meh lets go 2 stars.

We got two more matches and nothing has scored better than a 2.

Match 6: World Title Match Diesel Vs Shawn Michaels. During the event the officials were looking for Pamela Anderson but they are saying she was upset and left. Guest time keeper is Johnathon Taylor Thomas from Home Improvement.
The special ring announcer is Nicholas Turturro. Shawn Michaels was supposed to
be escorted by Pamela Anderson but now he is being escorted by Jenny Mccarthy. Sid is in Shawns corner. Diesel makes his way to ringside then introduces Pamela Anderson as his escort. Shawn jumps Diesel but gets backdropped over the top rope. Shawn starts using his speed but gets stopped by a Diesel forearm.
Shawn goes over the top rope and lands on a photographer. Shawn gets pissed and
drags the photographer away, what a dick. Diesel misses a big boot and Michaels clothesline him and both guys go to the outside. Shawn gets back into the ring and jumps off the top rope with a crossbody onto Diesel on the floor. Shawn starts messing with the photographers again, and Diesel misses an elbow and hits the post hard. Diesel is laying on the outside so Shawn splashes him from the apron, and a Sid chant starts up. Shawn puts on a sleeper, Diesel gets out of it and Diesel starts building momentum. Shawn goes outside and Diesel goes after him. The ref goes outside to keep Sid from interfering and he hurts his ankle. Meanwhile Shawn hits the superkick but there is no ref. When the ref finally gets in their to make the count Diesel kicks out. Alot of booing going on. Diesel gets a suplex and both guys are down. Diesel catapults Shawn into the corner. Diesel send him to the ropes and gets a big boot in. Diesel hits the jackknife and gets the pin at 22:10. Best match so far. I say 3 1/2 stars.

Match 7: Bam Bam Bigelow Vs Lawrence Taylor. I would just like to state I firmly believe world titles should always be the main event match, unless it's the Royal Rumble. Obvious WWF went for the marketing instead of tradition. Pat Patterson is guest referee. Taylor's all pro team knock Ted Dibiasie's team off the apron. Bigelow comes out and goes after Salt N Pepa (were they supposed to perform or somethin? There just kinda there it seems). Lawrence Taylor goes on the offense and the crowd goes nuts. Taylor gets a pretty good bulldog on Bigelow and it's all Taylor. Bigelow turns it around and starts hammering Taylor. Bigelow slams Taylor but misses an elbow. Bigelow puts on a boston crab but Taylor grabs the ropes. Bigelow is really pouring it on. Bigelow goes up top and does a corkscrew moonsault. The only time I remember him doing that move. Maybe it was the only time because he hurt his knee on the landing and can't make a pin. Taylor catches Bigelow and gets him with a modified gut wrench suplex. Taylor's got Bigelow in the corner and hit's him with some shoulder thrusts then uses some clotheslines. Taylor goes onto the second rope and comes off with a forearm that catches Bigelow in the mush and Taylor scores the pin in 13:07. Not bad. Let's go with 2 stars. Dibiasie is chewing out Bigelow as they head to the locker room. Everyone celebrates.

Only 7 matches? What a short Mania. With the new score system in place this show only pulls a 3.9 star rating. It BARELY edges past Mania 9 to stay out of the worst Mania position.

Best Match: Diesel Vs Shawn
Worst Match: A tie Lex and Bulldog Vs Bleu Brothers, and Undertaker Vs Bundy.

Salt N Pepa did perform at WM 11. In the Anthology, they were kept off the DVD because the WWE didnt want to pay them royalties to use their likeness.

Do you know if they performed at the ppv airing? I know it sounds like a stupid question but back in 1995 the following Monday some kid brought the ppv in to school on a vhs tape and I can't remember seeing them except for that cameo during the Bigelow Vs Taylor match.

reply

They perform before the match and after it. Mostly just rapping "Whatta man" with the lyrics changed for Lawrence Taylor.

What was up with the singing of the national anthem? Who was that, and why were they considered in the first place?

reply

Fishbone was originally scheduled but I am guessing they pulled out at the last minute. The WWE has always been a supporter of the Special Olympics, especially in their home state of Connecticut. So they got a Special Olympics athlete to perform America the Beautiful. That is my guess.

I remember Diesel/HBK being really good, I dunno why they didn't have more matches, and why Bam Bam/Taylor was the final match, but it was good. The match of the year was at Summerslam (Ladder Match 2) as far as PPV's go. I don't like this one too much, but Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy are smokin' hot!

reply

btw Michael is correct. I recorded the event live, and Salt N pepa perform what a man for LTs into, changing a few lyrics.
