What if the Macho Man fought Sgt. Slaughter

I n the original script it was supposed to be the Macho Man vs Sgt. Slaughter follwing victory over the Ultimate Warrior in the royal rumble, however at the last minute due to the ongoing first gulf war it would have beem inappropriate to have a rulebreaker like Macho Man rather than the All-American hero like Hulk Hogan fight Sgt.Slaughter so Vince Macmahon for a more appropriate maint event at Wrestlemania 7. however i always wonder what would have happened if the original match occured(with the fans barely cheering the Macho Man)

Heel Vs Heel can be interesting but for a WM main event not really.

Slaughter was past his prime her,e ti's hard for modern wrestling fans seeing the like of Hogan on life support to remember that even then there where old legends limping on when they should have retired, but regardless I loved this Main Event.

If that was true then the plan might include Savage turning face. I know it would be quick but they could do something like Slaughter doing something mean to Miss Elizabeth and turn Savage face (which is what happened with Jake Roberts
later that year) and hey Savage's heel turn before Wrestlemania 5 was quick-so
a fast change of heart for Macho Man before WM 7 wouldn't be out of the question
To be honest the only logical wrestler to fight Slaughter for the belt at the time was Hogan. Savage was a heel in a major feud with Warrior, Kerry Von Erich
wasn't properly pushed (but me being from Texas would love it), Warrior already fought Slaughter, Jim Duggan being B-Class, and Hogan being the number 1 face
it was the only possible match-up

Oh wait. I heard something that the plan always Hulk vs Slaughter and Warrior vs Savage. The difference in the original plan was for the Warrior and Savage bout to be for the WWF belt (Warrior either regaining or successfully defend the belt) while Hulk and Slaughter was originally meant to be a battle of legends with no belt on the line.

I don't know. Slaughter by this time was fully consumed with evil and the Iraqi culture. Not sure Macho Madness would be able to overcome that. Hulkamania proved to be the right choice
