I thought I was the only one who thought that Jennifer Lopez was a horrible actress/singer. So why is she famous? Shortly after the "Selena" movie, certain elements of the press, particularly the Hispanic press (both in its English and Spanish language publications) made an effort to associate Lopez with the late singer; many Spanish language newspapers annointed her either as Selena's successor or as her reincarnation. In other words, the media was able to sell Lopez to the Hispanic audiences in this country by constantly associating her with Selena. Moreover, the "race card" has occasionally been used as a marketing strategy in order to promote Lopez among certain segments of the Hispanic market. I used to work at a movie survey company, and whenever we did studies on her movies and had to ask people why they would be interested in seeing her movies, I spoke with countless teenage Hispanic girls who told me that they liked her simply because she was Hispanic. Although her following might be more multi ethnic by now, Lopez's career could never have been launched without the support of her loyal Hispanic fans, who faithfully bought her CDs and saw her movies during the initial phase of her stardom. In addition, have you ever noticed that the press goes out of its way to remind us that she is "the highest paid Latina?" At times, it seems that her whole career revolves around her being Hispanic. Most of the credit of Lopez's success has to go to her publicist, who undoubtedly spends enormous amounts of cash on publicity for her. Don't think that the press is just giving her free publicity; they are getting paid for it. As far as her looks are concerned, I think she is UGLY. Can I think of anyone else who else better looking? Let me see, Roselyn Sanchez, Natalie Ledesma, Anita Vasquez, Angelica Rivera, Luz Elena Gonzalez, Adamaris Lopez, Galilea Montijo, Martha Julia, Daniela Castro, Rosanna San Juan, Tania Prado, Liliana Lago, Paty Munoz, Claudia Ramirez, Alicia Machado, Lysette Morelos, Araceli Arambula, Jacqueline Arroyo, Adriana Fonseca, Maria Sorte, Alessandra Rosaldo, Paola Cantu, Claudia Silva, Yadira Carrillo, Lourdes Mungia, Natalia Esperon, Lorena Rojas, Yadira Santana, Julieta Rosen, Sophia Vergara, and Paty Diaz, just to name a few.

And finally, as far as her wedding is concerned, the whole thing is a publicity stunt that will allow entertainment magazines to devote pages and pages of their publications to the event. The magazines will write about her wedding dress, their rings, every little detail. In short, it's just another excuse to give publicity to Miss Lopez.
