I kinda liked the way it ended, with a new beginning for Lu and her new hubby and baby.

Peter and Kayla had an ending. Peter was struggling with the decision of if he should go to medicial school, throughout the episode Kayla made it clear she'd support whatever decision he made. At the end of the episode he told Kayla he'd decided he was happy being an RN and a midwife that those roles mostly fulfilled him. Then he added what he'd like to be was a doctor's husband. Kayla looked thrilled and the implication was they were going to get married.
I remember that because early on I had felt really meh about Kayla and Peter even getting together but by the end of the season I realized that the actors and characters really clicked and made sense together. Unlike Lu who seemed to have a merry go round of love interests and drama out the wazoo I could believe they could get married and be happy. So their ending which was simple and understated really worked for me.
Andy, Kayla, Peter, and Lana made the last seasons for me.
