I had no idea this thing existed...

..which is saying something, cause back in the 80's we tended to record bloody EVERYTHING that was any sort of special, christmas or otherwise.

My 5 year old and 3 year old happened to come into the room whilst i was
watching the PEE WEE HERMAN performance of his broadway show on HBO..

My kids absolutely loved what they saw, so on an (albeit 50 buck) whim, i went
out and picked up the entire run of PEE WEE'S PLAYHOUSE on DVD... Along
with it came this christmas special.

Good gosh how did Reubens pull together this assortment of stars!

What a combo of has-beens, flash-in-the-pans, and up and coming superstars!

Really is a work of mad-genius. My 3 year old and i just got done
watching it, and it's amazing to me what lessons she pulled away from it.

Nice to see a show that doesn't treat kids like idiots.

Too bad it's relegated to late night showings on Adult Swim instead of daytime slots kids could view, enjoy and learn from these shows. As a parent I have never understood why Reubens was never "forgiven" and stations allow the next generation(s) of kids to enjoy these shows in rerun. Seems to me, especially with today's exploits, that Mr. Reubens arrest was worthy of little more than a gentle slap on the wrist. My kids loved him but they were only able to enjoy his movie. A real shame since, as you said, these shows were socially educational.
