Does Pee Wee really believe Jesus is the reason for the holiday?

For as subversive as this special (and the character) was I was actually a bit put off with the "true meaning of xmas" birth of jesus bit toward the end. I'm wondering if the network mandated it or if Reubens himself decided to add it. Either way, it was a sour note in an otherwise surreal and insane experience.

You're so edgy, being pissed off at religion and all. Go on with your bad self.

I actually didn't think he said it enough about it. But I was glad that he included that bit at the end. Because it made his Christmas special more genuine, in my opinion. Without that "true meaning" message, his Christmas special would've been frivolous and meant nothing in the long run. At the very least, it would need to change its title!

As for Paul Rubens himself, he probably decided to put it in there, to avoid complaints from his audience. But I don't think he himself is Christian. I always heard that he was Jewish.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

You'll be all right. Get over it.

Do you really think they would have gotten away with deconstructing Christmas on a network TV special in the 80s? Pee-wee's Playhouse would have been cancelled.
