Is this an arcade game or was it on a console like one of the ataris

Both, it was in the arcades first then it made its way to the atari 2600, and verious other systems.

its almighty vector graphics were again released on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3:Rebel Strike. Enter the code at the passcode screen:
RTJPFC!G and then enter TIMEWARP to unlock it in the "arcade" section in specials.

I still remember hearing that as you played and blew up the Death Star. The audio in this game was amazing

It was originally an arcade game but it was ported to several consoles and home computer systems. None of the ports did it justice, though.

Fortunately, it runs pretty well in MAME these days and it was also emulated in Rogue Squadron III for the Gamecube.
