You might wonder why the numbering system is so bizzare. Myst, Riven and URU were all made by the original company, Cyan. The Myst sequels III and IV were made purely to capitialize on the Myst franchise name, and were not made by Cyan.
The numbering system isn't really bizare.
I mean,
1, The Sequel, then 3, then 4. It's kinda simple.
Uru isn't actually a sequel.
Also, one should mention realMyst, as it's an excellent remake of the original, and well worth trying to hunt down, unless you're buying the first three games in the trilogy package.
Umm...III and IV were actually made by Cyan, but assisted by UbiSoft.

Actually, we're both wrong. Myst III was completely outsourced to Presto Studios Inc. and Cyan had very minimal involvement. I had just assumed that this was also the case with the brand new Myst 4, but I was wrong, Cyan produced it. Ubi soft distributed both.
