A GREAT FILM - SEE IT!

I can't believe there aren't any posts for this brilliant film - I love it, and have watched the DVD over and over again. It's really chilled out and relaxing, and I love the way that it just sort of drifts along, following a group of twenty-somethings over a few days (weeks?) one summer. What is Jamie Thraves doing now? According to IMDB he hasn't really done much since this masterpiece, but he definitely should, as The Low Down is a blinding film!!!

Yes! It's great. It's on Channel 4 tonight, I'm getting stuck into it as we speak.

Yeah, it was Kev from Shameless. Brilliant range of impersonations. Really enjoyable film, feels like the first time every time.

Nope, not watching Perfect. I meant that I find Low Down so 'fresh' as a film, I can enjoy it as if I hadn't seen it before over and over again. That was about the 20th time I've seen it. I love it! I'm a straight man but Aiden Gillen is just amazingly charismatic on screen. Totally underused and underappreciated.

The only thing I didn't understand about this film was the scene in the pub when two of the lads get a load of grief off that Cockney bloke. Earlier Frank had told his girlfriend that he had a "massive temper" or something like that - well where was it?

"We're making a film here, not a movie."

reply

Really interesting post mate. My theory on this is that you absolutely expect him to snap, as we've been told he has a 'massive temper'. He doesn't and we think, 'oh he's risen above it.' However, he goes medieval when John behaves so ungratefully when they lay him off. In my opinion, this is because the Cockney guy meant nothing to him, he protected John by staying calm, and then John, being one of his closest friends, lets him down and trys to belittle him. Frank was the only one that had stood by John through all his immature behaviour, and John betrays him in effect. Frank sees this as worth snapping over. I mean, I would probably lay into a friend who you'd stuck up for countless times only for him to come into your place of work and behave like such a little runt like he did. Just my theory. But I would have liked to see Frank nail that Cockney guy! However, the film's so much better because he doesn't. He just says, "I'm a c---." and lets the guy walk away. Brilliant.

Oh come on guys this film is DREADFUL!

It meanders along to nowhere in particular and seems to have no discernable point to it or even a narrative. Most of the characters have nothing of interest to say and the camerawork is poor. The worst thing is that several scenes are pointless, some scenes end far to early and often characters don't say more when they really should.

I actually felt quite angry after I watched this film because it's annoying low-level indie rubbish like this which actually holds back the British Film Industry from succeeding internationally. Films like this have no discernable audience and so are doomed to fail even before they are made. As long as Britain keeps making rubbish films like this then we will never move on and have a strong industry which doesn't need American finance to survive all the time.

And just to really annoy me the gorgeous and talented Kate Ashfield was completely underused and was just required to play a simpering idiot to the odious character of Aiden Gilian. He's also a terrible actor.

This was a complete waste of time for all concerned and the only bit worth watching was the bizarre sight of Adam & Joe trundling in as if they'd walked into the wrong film!

Anyone thinking of watching this film - DON'T BOTHER!

Well I enjoyed it ;o)

Suki_Weeks you really are a dumbass as you were the one endlessly commenting when I'd long since given up replying to you. You're just a tedious moronic internet troll.

And now you pester me once again. You're like an STD always coming back! And quite frankly you're the most loathsome 'person' I've ever had the misfortune to have to read on here. Now go away for good this time.
