When he takes that cop outside as a Hostage, I would have had my snipers shoot him. Then, I would fire on the crowd because they supported John Q.

I would have probably done the same thing he did. If my kid or any loved one fro that matter needed something to keep them living i would do anything possible to get it for them and just like him if it came down to me living and them dieing i would end my life for theirs.

shareI'm NOT a parent, but I know for a fact that you can't "replace" a child like that. CHILDREN (and animals) AREN'T REPLACEABLE LIKE A CAR IS!!!!!
sharei would definately have shot myself in order to make sure my son lived. no questions asked. Whats better for u? living with the knowledge that u didnt do everything possible as a father to save ur son or giving ur life knowing that his will be better? I have no fear of death and my boy/girl would definately come before me. thats just me though
shareI'm pretty sure there's a possibility that the operation goes wrong, meaning that both John and his son die.
I'm also sure that heart transplant patients will only have about a few decades after he/she successfully receives a heart (giving that no rejection of the heart occurs). Don't forget that if John had done it, how on earth would the wife and his son live? Who's going to work for a living? The wife? She has to take care of the son!
What John had planned to do seemed to me as irrational and short-sighted. It's a decision made without much thinking, only emotion-based. I can understand how John feels, but he MUST think of the future if he truly loves his family.
If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story.share
