6.6??????????

This is one of my favorite movies. I don't understand how it has such a low rating. I personally loved it. What are your thoughts on the movie. Why did you or didn't like this movie?

reply

Taste is subjective, so it is usual that some people like the film, some don't. As for me, I like the film, especially with Denzel's brilliance in portraying the main lead. And as for the storyline, I think it is original & thought-provoking.

Americans are taught to disown socialism when seen in any form, so they dislike the message...Its funny how no one wants to pay taxes for universal healthcare, but talk about cutting social security, everyone gets hysterical...

Probably the fact that it was a 2-hour political advertisement as opposed to any kind of movie.

6.6 is actually extremely generous.

How about if you had to sit through 2 hours of Hollywood actors telling you that the most important thing on Earth is protecting the unborn? How do you think that would rate on IMDB, even if Denzel Washington put in a fine performance?

If you said anything over 1.5, you are kidding yourself.

reply

ROFL 1.5
The acting alone gives it a 7. I'd say the story, pacing, chemistry, directing, all wrap around a 7 quite well. Ya, I'd say the movie deserves a 6-7, which is exactly where it rates on IMDb.

To rate it a 1.5 is just ridiculous.

1.5? Did you see Denzel crying talking to his son in that hospital bed towards the end of the movie? Did you see Kimberly Elise or David Thornton's acting in their emotional scenes? With a cast that has them, Robert Duvall, James Woods, Anne Heche and Ray Liotta, their performances were fantastic. I thought Denzel should've gotten an Oscar off of his performance, same for Kimberly Elise and maybe Anne Heche. I'm with the OP, I cannot understand how that didn't get any nomination, yet Michael Moore won a couple Oscars and golden globes when he did his movies, hell, even Bill Maher's Religicious was nominated. John Q was very powerful movie and he was in a very realistic situation that could've easily have happened to anyone and it had a very realistic ending IMHO. This rating should be been a 7.5.

I'm amazed Religulous was nominated, I felt it was way too tame. Michael Moore's movie on Capitalism was real good though.

Agreed.

Well that's what films essentially are.
A view and an opinion of what the director/writer/actors and entire ensemble uniformly (more or less) agree on.

you can't possibly say that there are movies that aren't subjective.

and 1.5? well you've must've given some great ass movies nothing over a 5.

6.5 is my vote.

Probably because everyone has certain likes and dislikes. If everyone was the same, the world would be very dull. You may think a dress is pretty and someone else may think they would not wear it to their own funeral.
