His wife really pissed me off

"You need to DO SOMETHING!"

And she doesn't? Why don't you get off your ass and stop crying like a baby (cause that's really helping your son) instead of ordering around your husband and having him go through all the trouble and going to JAIL.

reply

she was a *beep* bi.tch

If cinema was a religion, Pacino would be God!;)

AGREED, just another hoodrat relying on her old ass BLACK traditions of making the man do all the work, I KNOW, i'm a 1/4 black and my grandpa always tells me bout my grandmas bitching and her non-self reliance to get *beep* done. I hated her but I loved her too LOL.

That's women for you

reply

I love how you can tell from your self proclaimed "1/4 black"-ness (and your Grandpa's side of the story) the mentality of MOST black women. How does one experience equal all women? That "hoodrat" nonsense is a new phenomenon. If there truly was a "black tradition" of hoodrats relying on men, you wouldn't be here. I assure you that. Lastly if you think the wife portrayed in this film was a hoodrat, you clearly don't know what it means.

Right!

Rest in Peace Michael Clarke Duncan, your smile will be missed.

Chile please. Leave that man alone. He's got to tap dance for the his white homies whom are gay.

reply

I totally agree. It was her b i t c h ass that pushed him over the edge. The pregnant woman in the emergency room pissed me off as well. Just STFU!!!!

reply

I am just watching this film now and she was all nasty about the car being taken away. Even though she is in the same position as him so knows that jobs are hard to come by. But he has to get a second job while she waitresses.

And then she whines and seems to just blame Denzil for everything even though he is in the same boat as her and not being able to do anything.

This film really put me off her as an actress as everytime I see her in something I just remember her whining and being a complete b*tch about everything.

reply

arrrrrghhhhhhhhh im not rasist but that does seem to be the typical "in film" black woman attutude problem! hate it

The way I see it she was in an extremely stressful situation with her son dying and being denied medical care. She felt powerless and therefore relied on her husband to find a solution. I don't think it's a black thing. In culture in general, the husband is viewed as the provider of the family. John Q's wife was raised to believe in this to some level. I know nowadays we praise sex equality and believe in it, but we still actually live in a highly patriarchal society. I think any wife in that situation who can't think of a solution herself would beg her husband to find one. And because it's such a terrible situation, yes some of them may even get mad at their husbands for not finding one, whether they're black, white or latina or asian or whatever.
People just don't tend to be very rational when they get desperate.

Putting aside the pain a mother must feel when her young son is so close to death, I always thought Mrs. Archibald was a whiny little bitch!

Even from the very first scene when her car was repo'd. She cared more about the fact that her 7-year-old station wagon was gone then the fact that her husband was trying to look for a second job. Oh yeah, John did such a terrible thing by choosing to pay the mortgage over the car payment so the family wouldn't be homeless!

John breaks his back to raise as much money as he can, selling all his personal posessions, as well as his truck and even appeals to the neswpaper reporter to see if he can get some more help. Didn't she have a job herself?

Then SHE has the nerve to scream at John that HE has to do something, while she continues to do JACK S*H*I*T, except keep up her dramatic, "poor me" bedside vigil. Like her son wasn't already getting the medical care he needed.

No, I understand her perspective. Even the pregnant woman in the ER.

Very often it IS the man's responsibility to do something in these situations. That is probably a part of why she married him. It depends on the relationship. That is the relationship contract.

It would definitely suck to be in a situation like John Q was in, but that is what you sign-up for if you have a family, a wife, and children. It means that even if life throws a total curve ball at you, you are still the one who HAS to make the toughest decisions, bear the heaviest burdens, and, if necessary, make the ultimate sacrifice so that those in your care and protection can be safe.

Her attitude may have been bad at times, maybe, but she WAS doing her part and I think he realized that her moments of upsetness were understandable. They seemed to understand one another...and that is what counts .

I couldn't possibley agree more (with the OP, not you iroquoisjoe).

This woman places everything on John's head and what the fu*k does she do? NOTHING. John does EVERYTHING in his power to try and support and save his family. Taking on a 2nd job, selling all their possessions, handling the bills, approaching the news reporter to do a feature piece on their son, etc, etc, fuc*king etc...

From what I saw, all she did was sit on her big black ass, bi*ch and complain to John and work part time on the 3am shift at the Chicago Waffle House.

And to the above poster who mentioned the bi*ching pregnant wife in the E.R. "No! You need to get up do something!!"
This woman is just as bad as Denise. Did she not realize that speaking out-of-turn around a gunman on the edge could have gotten her and her husband a moon-roof through the back of their fu*king heads? I found this part to be very un-realistic. I highly doubt, in a real life hostage situation, that this women would say anything. She'd be risking her, her unborn child and her husbands life. Most people who take people hostage under the threat of death are not as understanding as John Quincy Archibald.

I agree. That part was kinda unrealistic and I agree, most people that do that would NOT be as understanding as John was. As for his wife, after rewatches, I noticed how she put everything on his shoulders. I felt more for him than I did for her. It was a terrible situation but man, she was the real reason that John got so fed up to do what he did.

Your response is uncalled for and unnecessary. *rubs hands together* White males like yourself make it easy for me to bring THIS up. :-) Don't you have some white daughters to attend to, whom are chasing after black dyck? Get back at me!

I think the only decent thing she did was her one line to Rebecca Payne.
