I personally thought it was a fantastic movie. I really like war movies, and I like movies where people fight using mindgames and sneaky manoeuvres against each other, as opposed to simply chucking bombs at each other, so that's probably why I liked it more than most of the people on this board.
But I'm interested - if everyone else thinks this wasn't such a great movie, can anyone else recommend something similar that I might like even more? I don't usually like war movies made before, say 1980-1970, although I do have a couple good dvds (The great escape, Bridge over the River Kwai). Hmm.. I just realized both those movies and Hart's war happen to be POW movies. It may be that that setting encourages the kind of environment where both sides use different kinds of weapons to fight each other, instead of guns and bombs.
So ya.. any suggestions?

Comparing LOTR with Hart's War is like comparing a hot dog with steak. You just don't do it.

I love Nick Lachey and Orlando Bloom...? I hope you're a girl, and like 12. Obvoiusly you have no business posting on this board, grow up.

If you're into dry boring movies then this certainly is the movie for you.

Jeffypoo, do you have a thing for men in bondage then?

Seriously, if you liked the film, read the book. I couldn't put it down and it's so much bigger than the film.

Second best? Then there must be only one Movie ever made....

Second best? Heck NO!

This movie would have been a war film classic if Gregory Hobblit didn't have to come around and screw it up! JC, y'all, I thought it would be like The Great Escape, or All Quiet on the Western Front, or even Saving Private Ryan. But, oh no. I was mistaken. The movie had great funding but had horrible directing! This $70,000,000 film wouldn't measure up to many $5,000,000 films. It's okay to watch, if you are at a rental store with a couple bucks to kill and with no flick on your mind!

Not the second best movie ever, but WICKED!!! I love Colin's acting. Bruce Willis just went up a notch in my book. Truly a great picture. Too bad it didn't make much money though.

he's not only immature he's a dumbass. the original poster wasn't comparing LOTR to the MOVIE they were comparing the long LOTR to the long post that would result if she started describing why she liked it.
Thus,
"it was so good and thats all i can reall say because if i start with why my post would be as long as lord of the rings!" hear that? the post, not the movies dumbass.

How exactly do you know that the OP is a she ???

Agreed. "Second best movie ever" is nutso.

But it's a very accomplished film with a unique plot and terrific performances from a great cast. I've watched it several times, and while it's no Great Escape, it is far better than people here give it credit for. Gregory Hoblit is a good director who cut his teeth on early Steven Bochco TV shows like Hill Street Blues, LA Law and NYPD Blue. He went on to make several terrific films, including Primal Fear (which introduced Edward Norton), Frequency (with Jim Caviezel and Dennis Quaid) and one of my favorite occult cop movies, Fallen, with Denzel Washington and John Goodman.

Hart's War is right up there with the best of Hoblit's directorial work.
