Jonathon Brandis

Huge favor for anyone with the DVD. Can anyone tell me if the scene(s) with Jonathon Brandis is on the DVD? I know they have deleted scenes. It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

reply

Jonathan Brandis you mean!

I was wondering the same thing - I might rent it this weekend, but just wanted to find out if he was in one of the deleted scenes extras since I know his original scene had ended up on the cutting room floor and not in the actual movie.

Thanks for anyone who can help!

reply

I have the DVD,

It has ten deleted scenes in it.

I am no expert on the Ladybug's Star but I think he is in the first deleted scene titled "Original Train Sequence." I don't know if it is him or not for sure though.

Even if he is not in the deleted scenes you should rent the movie. It is a great movie.

Thanks for the info!

I've actually seen the movie and it is fantastic. I just didn't realize he was in it and cut out the first time I saw the movie, so I didn't take the time to go through the special features...that's why I wanted to see if he was included, because then I could rent it and just see those scenes since I'd already seen the movie as a whole...

But anyway..thanks again for the info!

You do realize that Jonathan Brandis is deceased? Why say something so cruel about someone who died so tragically and so young? If you knew, shame on you, if you did not know, think before you type it.

Date of death (details)
12 November 2003
Los Angeles, California, USA. (suicide)

If memory serves, he hung himslef. There are plenty of fan sites around that probably have more details. I have never been a huge Brandis fan (just never seemed to turn up in the films I like), but I thought he did a great job in the film Ride With The Devil.

According to Wikipedia about Brandis's suicide "He was also said to be upset when his appearance in Hart's War, a role he hoped would be his comeback, ended up on the cutting room floor."

Now you know why people would want to see his deleted scenes.

He had such a bit part, how could he hope it would be his come back? Weird.

i highly doubt he thought the role would be a comeback-role, but maybe more of a kick start to get his career going again and with him working. his scenes being deleted may have furthered his despair but i don't think it was because it was supposed to be his come back and never happened.

It's hard to realize how difficult the path is for a child actor who wants to continue acting into adulthood. Many of them are discarded when they start getting past their "cute kid" phase or when photos of them no longer grace the pages of teen-oriented fan mags and websites. The entertainment industry is infamous for dropping people like a hot potato when they determine that person's "time is up". When this happens, many go into a free fall and there is usually no one to catch them. There is now an organization, A Minor Consideration (aminorconsideration.org), that tries to do just that.

So Jonathan Brandis got this bit part to hopefully show that he was more than a cute face or a teen heartthrob. Bruce Willis was alleged to have noticed his effort and mentioned to others that he thought Jonathan's acting was pretty good. Unfortunately, Jonathan took to heart the news that most of his scenes didn't make the final cut, as if it was a critique of his acting ability and not an editing decision.

As someone has mentioned, Jonathan can still be seen in some scenes, usually in a crowd shot.

i worked in the theatre at the time and heard he killed himself. i told this girl i had a crush on about it and she cried! needless to say i never got close to getting any from her

reply

Working at a theatre, she probably thought you were on the "other side of the field"...per se.

reply

Working at a theater is an amazing job to have when you're in high school. The tons of great, free movies and the hunnies that work there are proof of that. Someone with the screen name fitzyroo, like yourself, probably wouldn't pay attention to them though. You'd be to busy watching your Colin Farrel flicks to notice.

Colin Farrell is hardly a great actor. I don't know why that poster was talking about "he's suck a better actor and he's hot". Because someone's hot doesn't mean they should be on screen. Yes, Jessica Alba is gorgeous, but I refuse to watch any movie with her name listed in the credits. Have some self respect.

And yes, Brandis' death is horrible. Even a suicide is a tragedy. I enjoyed SeaQuest a lot when I was younger. It's a shame his career and life ended in such a way.

My comment was not in relation to one being more talented or better looking than the other. I wish for you great success. Live a plentiful life! When I am dead, I hope its not about looks that I will be remembered for. I hope it will be for my accomplishments and the ways that I contributed to society. Rest in peace-Jonathan.

You know Brandis is still in the movie. He and Sam Worthington(of the Australian captured) are both seen brooding often in the back ground. Brandis has a particularly good scene where he stares out the window.

reply

Colin Farrell is a no talent ass clown who gets by, somehow, on his looks alone. He couldn't act his way out of a *beep*

He's in the movie, just not with speaking parts...
In the first count scene where the German soldiers are doing "roll call"
At 30 minutes 07 seconds he is just behind the soldier with the blanket over his head, on the left.
At 30 minutes 24 seconds, he is behind Sgt. Beckford on the right side of the screen
At 30 minutes 34 seconds he is second from left, behind Sgt. Beckford.
The soup scene with the maggots in the broth, around 30 minutes 48 seconds, he is the soldier wearing Corporal stripes walking from left to right on screen and stops to look out the window. He stays by the window the entire scene when the Black Officers enter the enlisted barracks scene.

I'm sure he's in there more, but that's all I've looked at thus far.

As for the deleted scenes he has a speaking role on the cut Coronal Ridge scene when Sgt. Beckford asks Lt. Archer where he is from, Archer replies Coronal Ridge.. Brandis' character and Lt. Scott start laughing.. finally Brandis' character tells Sgt. Beckford that Coronal Ridge is the tip of your pecker.

reply

so thats his big comback line? talking about the tip of a pecker?

You have to see it from his point of view. He worked steadily as an actor during his childhood and his teenage years and for a short time in the mid 90's he was as big a star as there was, and then it all went away and he found himself struggling to even get work as an actor. It must have been like living your career backwards. When you then suddenly get a part in a big hollywood blockbuster movie with Bruce Willis, I'd say it's only natural that anyone would see that as a step forward, a kind of comeback, even if it's only a really small role.

reply

Jonathan is a victim of his own ambition.
Imagine living your dream of becoming a great actor only to discover you don't have what it takes. It must be mentally devestating.
Reminds me of Salieri in "Amadeus" for lacking the gift that Mozart had.
Looks may get you far.. but probably not far enough..

reply

Actually, Bruce Willis was heard to comment that his acting WAS pretty good in the film.
