Why were two soilders lighting their farts?

if you light a fart it burns up the flammable methane gas which in turn takes some of the smell away. Hence the experession "someone light a match" whenever a person farts

They only had basic cable in the camps and nothing good was on the tube so they improvised the entertainment.

An indirect form of lighting does create a wonderful ambiance.

There is a BIG difference between lighting a match AFTER a fart and lighting a fart.
The difference is a sulfer smell overpowering the stink of the methane and an ExPLOSION !
