some interesting points

Well I'm one of those lucky ones that first read the book and than watched the movie. I think the movie was quite okay but it nowhere could catch the real atmosphere and the impact the book had on me.
Still I've got some points that should emerge some interesting discussions.
The 2 angels in the movie and in the book clearly state that they had to create 2 world wars to finally bring the angel with the mission on earth. The angel has got to break the alliance that God has with mankind by returning the tablets. One of the big reasons for the breakup of the alliance is the technology that mankind is exploring more and more and which they possibly could use for the wrong purposes (cloning etc.)and possibly discovering heaven. But at the same time, the impact of two world wars was huge on mankind... we can almost say that the world wars were the start signs for the technology development. A lot of money was put into weapon development and the same technology later is used for other purposes. After WW2 a lot of countries(mostly Europe) got in a major economic growth and by that mankind suddenly was absorbing technology like never before. So basically you can say that God created his own reasons for handing mankind over to the devil by sending this angel to earth and trying to blame mankind at the same time. If he didn't send Quinten to earth the world wars would've never happened, implies the Book. Maybe than humankind wouldn't have those realisations and one can only guess how the world would look now... I don't think the technology growth would be as big as it is now. Anyway, God is an *beep* you could say that. Also I think it's farfetched to create 2 world wars with millions of deaths just to bring Quinten on earth for something as symbolic as the returning of the tablets.

I like this thread cause I can hear some of my own thoughts echoed in your words. I have not read the book so I did not know how the plot would play out in the end. I DID have some expectations though.. I was expecting some sarcasm, some spirit.. and there came none. I was expecting some revelation, of how ...evil the angels and god as potrayed in the movie are acting. I was expecting REBELLION from Quinten. Then the movie shocked me by his compliance.. the ending was weak. Where is the revolt from the humans? So according to the script (perhaps the book as well, considering how everyone claims it is such a close adaptation) it is alright for humans to be placed on earth just to be moved like pawns? For Quinten to see everyone important in his life die? For everyone in the movie to basically suffer...just for the whims of heavenly beings? Oh, hell no, that's just *beep*

i just finished watching the bloody film, just now, 5 minutes ago!!!

the way they portrayed god in a manner of being unjust and the angels being intolerable and cold is unbelieavable, if thats how heaven is than damn them to hell.
me as well, was able to feel like i was reading my thoughts are your threads, like honestly, whats the deal.
i hated the ending.told nothing of what happened to the characters in the end, or what happened after the tablets where brought back to heaven, nothing at all.

also (this may sound odd or stupid) but i feel somewhat scared or worried. i am a catholic, raised. it wouldn't be hard to believe if that potraying of heaven was correct, not only belieavable, but *beep* scary.
makes me think alot, and i mean alot.
