Why would Dawn steal jarred baby food?

When Dawn and Jeff robbed the convenience store, the clerk said she stole two dozen jars of baby food, which made no sense. Obviously, this was meant to be a hint that she was going to demand her baby, but even a first-time mom would be aware by the time she gave birth that newborns can't eat jarred baby food. They can only digest breastmilk or formula. It would make more sense for her to steal formula and bottles or even just diapers would work for the foreshadowing.
