Armageddon 99 Review

The last WWF ppv of 1999 and the beginning of my favorite WWF periods when WCW's best ran from the sinking ship and joined McMahonland. Live from Ft Lauderdale your hosts are JR and The King.

#1 Contender Tag Team Battle Royale

The Hardy Boyz, The Acolytes, Edge And Christian, The Dudley Boyz, The Headbangers, Too Cool, The Mean Street Posse, And The Godfather And Mark Henry

Whoever wins gets a shot at the Outlaws belts at The Rumble. Only one referee at ringside so you KNOW that's gonna screw the ending. Rodney is the first one out but Joey Abs sneaks to ringside and they do the Demolition switch and Abs takes his place in the ring. Abs gets tossed then Rodney switches back in, Swamp Gas gets thrown out and the ref finally catches two of them on the floor at the same time and the Posse are gone. Henry throws out Mosh to get rid of the Bangers then Henry follows almost immediately. Christian and Scotty fight on the apron then Edge and Sexay charge both guys but Christian backdrops Sexay out and Edge knocks off Scotty. They were tweeners at this moment but would be turned babyface instead of goofy heels in a short time. D-Von rolls outside and pulls Edge out and eliminates E+C. That leaves Acolytes, Hardyz and Dudleyz. Dudleyz with the double neck breaker. JR thinks all their double teams are the 3D. Matt sneaks right up and heavehos D-Von. Crowd is crazy for the Hardyz. Jeff and Bradshaw do the spill over the ropes and hang on the apron, and Jeff with a missle dropkick isn't enough to drop Bradshaw to the floor. Faarooq gets eliminated on the other side but the ref is out of position so he sneaks back in. Matt and Bradshaw on the apron and Faarooq puts Jeff into orbit on an alleyoop and the Acolytes wins it at 10:53. Better than the usual battle royale. I give it 2 1/2 stars.

Match #2

Singles Match

Steve Blackman Vs Kurt Angle

Blackman starts first, then Angle comes back and misses the BIG moonsault and Blackman takes over Angle fights back and they do some good wrestling stuff in a short span, and the crowd chants boring because their dicks. Angle finishes it with a german suplex bridge pin at 6:57. Blackman gets the last laugh and beats Angle with the nunchuks. Crowd cheers. It was short, but despite the whiny crowd I liked it. 2 stars.

Match #3

Womens Championship Four Corners Evening Gown Swimming Pool Match

Ivory Vs B.B VsJacqueline Vs Miss Kitty

Good god. I know full well were not supposed to take it seriously but the Womens title is on the line here. Kitty wins the belt in about 2 1/2 minutes and Mae Young tries stripping. DUD!!!

Match #4

Tag Team Match

The Hollies Vs Rikishi And Viscera

Viscera is a lazy ass and doesn't care about Rikishi or the match really. Rikishi sits on Crash a minute in but Crash no sells by lifting the shoulder. Holly and Crash double team Rikishi and he tags a non caring Viscera who does his stuff and again one of the Hollies tries a sunset flip, this time Viscera drips a huge leg on Bob. Rikishi in and things break down, Viscera hits him by accident with the spinning heel kick and Hardcore pins Rikishi at 4:23. Rikishi and Vis fight postmatch. 1 1/2 star.

Match #5

European Championship Triple Threat Match

The British Bulldog Daveyboy Smith Vs D-Lo Brown Vs Val Venis

It's sad to see Bulldog here. He is very limited with his ability thanks to years of steroid abuse and that stupid accident at Fall Brawl 98. D-Lo messes up a springboard move on Venis and the crowd lets them know. Venis and D-Lo then blow a double hiptoss on Bulldog. D-Lo takes over on Val and gets a powerbomb for two. D-Lo gets the lowdown for two on Bulldog, but Val hits both with the Money Shot and pins Bulldog for the title at 8:17. Two badly dones spots and Bulldogs lack of ability drag it down to 1 star.

Match #6

Cage Match

Kane w Tori Vs X-Pac

X-Pac locks Kane in the cage and goes after Tori, and Kane climbs out to chase. They finally get in the cage after a fight on the floor. Kane dominates with power stuff and X-Pac gets thrown like a ragdoll. They fight to the top and Kane gets crotched. Top rope legdrop from X-Pac gets two. Kane does the zombie situp and catches him by the throat coming off the top, then hits a tiltowhirl backbreaker. The Outlaws attempt a run in and open the door with bolt cutters, then slam the door on Kanes face. They toss Pac a chair and an x factor on the chair and he handcuffs Kane to the rope. Tori tries to stop Pac but she gets xfactored instead, Kane goes ape****, breaks the cuffs, and a chokeslam and tombestone kills Pac at 9:07. 2 1/2 stars.

Match #7

Intercontinental Championship Match

Chyna w Miss Kitty Vs Chris Jericho

Jericho goes nuts, beating up Chyna outside and front suplexes her on the announcers table and JR is having a fit. He tries whacking her with a chair but Kitty stops him and Chyna dropkicks it back in his face. Back in and Chyna gets the handspring elbow and a DDT for two. Jericho exposes a turnbuckle for bad intentions. Chyna gets caught in the ropes and Jericho attacks her bad hand and hits a running dropick on it. Chyna reverses a powerbomb to a rana for two. She slingshots Jericho into the exposed turnbuckle for two. Pedigree is reversed by Jericho into a backslide for two. Jericho tries a belly to back superplex, but Chyna falls on top for two. Chyna goes for a sunset flip but Jericho sits down right in the walls of Jericho. Chyna fights to the ropes within inches but Jericho moves back to the center and really synches it in for the submission at 10:20 and the crowd errupts. Im going 3 1/2 stars. Better than Survivor Series and Chyna took some nice hits out there.

Jericho does his victory speech backstage and Chyna congrats him. Smelling a face turn here for Jericho.

Match #8

Tag Team Championship Match

The New Age Outlaws Vs The Rock N Sock Connection

Starting with Mick and Dogg, then Rock comes in and the place goes nuts. Rock misses something and gets beat up for a few minutes then Mankind gets the hot tag and Billy splashes his partner by mistake. texas tornado breaks out and the ref goes down and Al Snow runs in, not suprising, JR had been talking about the breakup between him and Mankind all match. He nails Mankind and Dogg gets a two count on Mick. Rock beats Snow's ass down the entrance way (snow kinda looks like Eddie Guerrero here) he gets thrown into the jeep at the entranceway. Ringbell on Mankinds face gets two. Mick manages to fight out and Rock gets the hot tag. Rock Bottoms for everyone but Snow comes back for the DQ at 16:07. Not bad, I liked it despited the lameass dq ending. 2 1/2 stars.

Match #9

World Heavweight Championship Match

The Big Show Vs The Big Boss Man w Prince Albert

FINALLY, the blowoff to this horrible feud. Best part of the match, Show chokeslams Albert through the spanish table then owns Bossman and ends it at 3:13 with a chokeslam. 1/2 star. All for the table spot.

Match #10

No Holds Barred Match

HHH Vs Vince McMahon

Vince tosses powder in HHH’s face to get the early advantage. They fight through the crowd, then Mankind brings out a shopping cart full of weapons. More brawling on the floor, they fight back to the military diorahma and Vince takes a 30 cal barrel to the head. Vince in turn hits him in the head with the tail rudder of a helicopter. They fight to the back and Hunter escapes to the parking lot. Vince wanders around looking for him, and almost gets run over by HHH. HHH with a slam and an elbowdrop on top of a limo, and back to the ring. HHH climbs up the entrance way scaffolding, and Vince follows. Vince follows and gets knocked off, I and the crowd were expecting HHH to dive off but he just climbs down. Vince blades after the fall, I guess he cut himself on the mattreses. HHH wanders down to ringside and trash talks Stephanie. Back in the ring and HHH goes for the sledgehammer. Vince blocks with a low blow and grabs it. Stephanie runs in, but she wants the honors. So of course HHH gets it from her easily and he nails Vince for the pin at 29:57 and now HHH and Steph hug and gloat and now HHH has his foot in the family company door. Tough luck for Test. Im going 2 1/2 stars. Im not particularly fond of HHH and have never liked matches with "non wrestlers" This heel turn leads to the McMahon/Helmsley era that people were getting sick of by post Mania 16.

Overall Opinion: It's a pretty good ppv to close the year. Next months ppv would be better though.

Final Score: On the IMDB rating scale of 1.0 to 10.0, I score this show with a 5.5 star rating. It was better than Starrcade, I gave that one just over 3 stars.

The most HIlarious thing about this storyline was Vince making a Sex Symbol out of his own Daughter.

She did play it well thou.
