How the movie should have ended

Instead of showing the steriod freak they should have aged Barry Pepper and have him return to Yankee stadium for the retirement of his number.

Well, then he would have had to put a pillow underneath his jersey, because Maris(RIP) had a big gut at the time.

I assume you hate McGuire because he did roids? So what, he's not the only one, including the pitchers he faced. Wake up.

reply

Alternate ending: Just after HR #62, Mac is caught shooting steroids. Bud Lite has him declared out and banned. Barry Whatsisname takes note, and Maris retains the record.

I actually do not hate Big Mac. The ending of seeing Maris getting respect the he did not get from the fans when he was playing is a better way to end the film.

reply

Well, I accepted the inevitable and cheered him on in '98. But6 if he cheated, he can accept the consequences, like the Hall of Fame vote.

reply

I do think he did roid up in 98, but it was not against the rule back than and there is no proof. The man should be in the Hall. He was never caught red handed like Mr Palmerio.

I do not get that argument. Use of steroids to enhance performance was not specifically barred by MLB rule. But it was illegal. That's enough for me.

As an illustration of the principle as I see it: Spiking an opponents' gatorade with a performance-degrading substance - such as, say, arsenic - is probably not specifically barred by MLB rule. But that doesn't make it okay. And I doubt that many fans would have any problem with the lifelong ban of a player who did that.

The way I see it, the same goes for steroid use, or any action that is barred by law, regardless of whether there is a specific MLB rule against it.

I don't have to be careful! I got a gun!

reply

The main point is that he was never caught.

reply

I don't think McGuire even cares if he gets in the Hall or not, I really don't. He hates talking publicly and has stayed away from baseball for the last 5 years (except for 2 times when he came to St. Louis, but Larussa and the Cardinals made sure no questions about steroids were asked).

Yeah....exactly!! The movie should have ended differently...preferably not an ending that showed MacGuire hitting 62!!! Other than that, I LOVE this movie!!

No! Absolutely. . .not!
