It's unlucky 13 in the Wrestlemania series. Another Mania most consider somewhat forgettable except for the Bret Vs Austin match. We are at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago where Mania 2 was held. On with the review.

Match 1: 4 Corner Tag Match: Godwinns Vs Furnas and Lafon Vs Headbangers Vs New Blackjacks. The New Blackjacks debut here and immediatly start a mini battle royal. Things settle down, Furnas catches Windham with a huricinrana. Both guys end up outside the ring. The Blackjacks and Furnas and Lafon fight to a double countout so both teams are eliminated. That leaves the Godwinns and the Headbangers. Mosh tries a moonsault misses andn splats the mat. Things break down and Mosh catches a butt drop off the top rope onto Phineos for the pin in 10:41. Meh 1 star.

*beep* Tonk Man makes an appearance and does some color commentating.

Match 2: Intercontinental Championship Match: Rocky Maivia Vs Sultan. Someone in the crowd has a Die Rocky sign that is clearly visible at the beginning of the match. Rocky takes the early advantage but makes a rookie mistake and the Sultan takes over with a weardown hold. Sultan catches Rocky with a belly to belly suplex, then back to the rest hold. Rocky gets out of it and both guys catch eathother with a clothesline. Sultan is up first. Rocky starts building momentum with dropkicks then a belly to belly suplex, Rocky goes for the pin but the sultan kicks out, Rocky catches Sultan with a DDt. Rocky goes up top and catches Sultan with the flying crossbody, The Iron Sheik distracts the Ref so Rocky doesn't get the pin. Sultan is up and superkicks Maivia. Sultan hits a piledriver on Rocky, he goes for the pin but Rocky kicks out at 2. Sultan misses something and Rocky rolls up Sultan for the pin at 9:33. Sultan attacks Rocky with the IC belt, then splashes him from the top rope. Rocky Johnson comes in but gets beat up for his trouble. Maivia makes the save and Maivia and Johnson beat up the Iron Sheik. I guess ill go for 1 1/2 star.

Match 3: Hunter Hearst Helmsley Vs Goldust. Chyna makes her WWF PPV debut. Goldust takes control early. Hunter gets tied up in the ropes and Goldust takes advantage with some free punches. Both guys are fighting for a suplex in the corner, Hunter wins it and knocks Goldust out of the ring and he catches the ring apron with his face on the way down. Hunter puts on an abdominal stretch. Hunter gets a DDt, Goldust tries a small package out of nowhere for a 2 count. Hunter sends him to the ropes and misses, Goldust catches Hunter with a high cross body for 2. Hunter goes up top and comes off with a double axe handle but Goldust catches him with a butt bounce. Goldust catches Hunter with a bulldog but can only get a 2 count. Chyna goes after Marlena, Goldust pulls her out of the way, and Hunter catches Goldust with a high knee that knocks Marlena into Chyna who catches her in a bearhug and shakes her like a rag doll. Hunter takes advantage and gets the pedigree and the pin at 14:25. Good match 2 1/2 stars.

Match 4: Tag Team Title Match: Owen Hart and the British Bulldog Vs Vader and Mankind with Paul Bearer. Vader and Owen start. Vader beats Owen in the corner. Owen tries to use clothelines to knock Vader down, but no affect, so Owen uses the spin heel kick to knock him down. Vader knock down Owen and goes for a Vader bomb but Bulldog stops him. Mankind comes in and he and Vader double team Bulldog. Bulldog catches both guys with a double clothesline. Bulldog gets a delayed suplex on Mankind. Bulldog picks up Vader and slams him. Bulldog goes to the ropes and Vader pulls down the top rope, and Bulldog spills outside. Vader picks up Paul Bearers Urn and smacks Bulldog in the back of the head. Vader gets a suplex and a 2 count. Vader splashes Bulldog off the second rope and Bulldog still kicks out at two. Mankind gets the tag. Mankind backdrops Bulldog. Vader tags in. Vader hits Davyboy hard with a body block. Davy catches Vader with a slam and makes the hot tag to Owen who comes off the top rope with a missle dropkick on Vader. Vader quickly stops him. They take Owen outside to the floor and do Demolitions old Demolisher finisher, Owen gets turned inside out. Mankind comes in and gets kicked by Owen in the head with a loud smack. Davyboy gets the tag and throws Mankind face first to the turnbuckle. Davyboy sets up for the running powerslam but Mankind gets out of it and puts on the mandible claw. Both guys fall outside the ring and both men are counted out. Match ends in a double countout. Ill give it 2 1/2 stars.

Match 5: I Quit Match. Bret The Hitman Hart Vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. Ken Shamrock is the special referee Both guys get to it and the action spills outside the ring. Now there fighting all over the arena floor and out into the crow. Austin gets backdropped on the arena floor. There out in the crowd now. Both guys finally make their way back over the guardrail to ringside. Austin tries to hit Bret with the steel steps but Bret stops him. Bret sends him back into the ring and starts working on the legs. Austin manages to get a stunner but pinfalls don't count. Bret wakes up quick enough and goes back after Austins leg, and puts the figure four on around the ringpost. Crowd loves it. Bret brings in a chair and puts it on Austins ankle. Bret goes up top, but Austin gets up and grabs the chair and smacks Bret off the top rope, then hits him hard across the back with the chair. Austin tries a boston crab but Bret goes to the ropes. Both guys go outside and end up in the announce position. Austin wipes out the announce team. Austin gets busted open in the process. Bret splats Austin into the steel post. Hitman gets a chair and starts jabbing it right into the kneebrace of Austin. Bret is punching Austin in the corner, and Austin gives a low blow to Hitman that drops him. Austin throws Bret sternom first into the corner and starts stomping a mud hole in the corner. Austin sets him up in the cornerand gets a superplex. Austin starts choking Bret with some electric cords. Hitman grabs the ringbell up off the mat and smacks Austin in the face. Bret puts on the sharpshooter, Austin is bleeding all over the place. Austin fights out of it for a moment but Bret puts it back on. Austin stops moving. Shamrock calls for the bell because Austin passed out. Bret wins the match at 22:03. Bret attacks Austin and Shamrock throws him to the mat. Fans boo Bret who leaves the ring. Austin stuns a ref and refuses any help. Best match of the night. 4 1/2 stars.

Match 6: Chicago Streetfight: Ahmed Johnson and The Leigon Of Doom Vs The Nation Of Domination. Hardcore match basically. Everybodies using trash cans and assorted weapons, including the kitchen sink. Animal tries piledriving Farooq on the table but both guys fall off. Ahmed puts Farooq through the French announcers table. Animal nails Farooq with a metal parking sign. Crush nails Animal in the back with a wrench. Ahmed and LOD win it at 10:17. The fans liked it. Oh I don't know, kinda feels like a 1 1/2 star to me.

Match 7: World Title Match: Psycho Sid Vs The Undertaker. Shawn Michaels comes out and eats up some time posing and is going to do commentary. Onto the real main event. Undertaker comes out wearing his traditional black with grey trim. Bret Hart comes out to ringside and comments about Shawns pussy foot injury and how he "lost his smile" you notice Vince holding Shawn back, covering his new buddy. Bret gets in Sid and Takers face, so Sid powerbombs Bret for his efforts and tells him to get his whiny ass outta there. Crowd couldn't agree more. Taker attacks Sid, but Sid turns things around and gets Taker in a bearhug. Both guys end up outside the ring and they are fighting near the spanish announce table. Sid slams Taker on the table and cracks it. Sid controls for another 3 or 5 minutes with restholds. Sid tries a big boot, Taker catches him, spins him around and clotheslines him. Both guy go for the big boot and they both connect. Both guys are down, both guys get up and they are jocking for control. Sid goes up top but Taker catches him and slams him off the top rope. Taker goes for the tombestone. Sid reverse and gives Taker a tombestone. Taker kicks out befor the three. Both guys go outside the ring where Bret Hart comes back to ringside with a chair and hits Sid in the back twice. Taker drives Sid back first into the post. Taker chokeslams Sid but Sid kicks out at 2. Taker misses a flying clothesline. Sid takes advantage and goes for the powerbomb. Bret Hart yet again comes to the ring to interfere. Sid catches him and knocks him off the apron. But Sid gets caught and hit with the tombestone. Taker scores the pin at 23:47. Alot better than what most critics say. I give it 3 stars.

With the new scoring system in place, I think this show gets a little too much dumping on for than it deserves. This shows earns a 5.7 rating because Bret/Austin was phenominal and I think the main event gets a little too mcuh crap, better overall card from last year but weaker main event.

Best Match: Bret Vs Austin
Worst Match: 4 corner tag

I wonder why you say it's one of the most forgettable Wrestlemanias ever, but you give most of the matches 2 1/2 to 3 stars! Well maybe you meant others have forgotten about it. I usually just watch for Austin/Bret, but overall it makes the grade in my book.

reply

I didn't say that. I said "most consider it a forgettable Mania"

But it is one of the Manias that I have watched the least of. I gave the matches decent ratings. Im in the minority on the main event. Quite a few viewers have said Sid/Taker was abysmal. Also I rate matches from a dud to 5 stars. A 2 or 2 1/2 is like the average. 3 to 3 1/2 stars are good matches. 4 and 4 1/2 are great matches and a perfect 5 are one's that are superbly choreographed with a clean finish with a hot crowd and a long runtime.

I know im months late in my reply but just feel the need to get it out there for future reference.

Also, as far as forgettable Mania's everybody (if they haven't) check out Wrestlemania reviews by Scott Keith. He smashes the hell out of nearly all the matches and his review is more severe of this on in particular.

He even goes so far as to use the -5 star rating.
