Magnificent Motion Picture.

In my opinion "Our Lady of the Assassins" is a magnificent motion picture and I am writing here by way of adding some kind of balance to the violently negative reviews of the film by people the film seems to have frightened and offended. Of course the film intended to do just that but the reviewers here seemed to have missed that point and just about everything else except for the fact that their narrow rural preconceptions felt rubbed raw. Too sad. When a film hits home it is hardly a failure.

"Our Lady of the Assassins" is a very good film for people who think and especially for people who have been around a bit and are familiar with the world that the straight population never sees. If you think you fit that description you may well find a great deal here of interest and you won't be wasting your time by having a look. If on the other hand, you are some kind of college student desperately engaged in attempting to stay as uneducated as possible in the face of all the odds; or a natural and happy fan of mass market pablum, don't bother. You won't like it. Watch something else and leave this one for the grownups. You'll be happier.

I agree wholeheartedly. I am not Colombian (but German for that matter) but I did watch this movie in Spanish, which isn't easy at all due to heavy MedellĂn-slang by basically everyone apart from Fernando.
I thought it was a brilliant movie behind its apparent low-budget looks and poor/mediocre acting by certain characters (which might have been intended in some case). Fernando was just great. 8/10

I haven't read all the bad reviews but by the headlines I see that people feel strongly about it which i don't understand either. I mean, I thought it was an entertaining twist. I am not gay, I don't see alot of "gay" films, I thought the three central characters were nice looking men and nice to look at while I was learning about the plot. I don't think the movies's really about gay men either. It's about the youth violence pretty much. Their preference is just a side bar. It could have been a similar story had Fernando been a wealthy women coming back from Spain saying to Alexis - take your real girlfriend out and he could have said, "don't have a girlfriend" instead of "don't like women" / The characters are very likable. Everytime I see it when Alexis says, "let's go to Cuba, let's go to New York" - I just wish they could have - I wish Fernando and Alexis could have gotten to New York! So sad - I love this movie!
