I've seen a number of low-budget sci-fi shows that started this way.
Space: Above And Beyond was just the same... then suddenly, about halfway through I realised it had subtly found its feet and become one awesome little show, the actors had come into their stride, the characters were pretty damn solid and the plot was in fact surprisingly engaging.
I'm only 3 eps into this, but I'm giving it a fair go...
Should have found it's feet a bit faster, or maybe it wouldn't have been canceled
The truth is out there.
It wasn't cancelled... It was bought out by investors, who changed things around (including the main cast) for Season 2, before pushing the original creators out of the picture.
There is a third season coming out, where someone else acquired the rights and brought back the original cast that everyone liked so much.
