You're right. A bullmastiff.

Loveable things, aren't they? Mastiffs are sweethearts, bred to look threatening and scare away intruders but really be a big baby with the family.

reply

You're right it is a bullmastiff. They are great dogs very friendly and sweet also good with other dogs.

reply

He is not a bull mastiff or an english mastiff. But he is a mastiff. He is an american mastiff, albeit a very small one. They usually way between 160 lbs to 200lbs.

reply

the reason he seems small is because he's a BULLmastiff...they usually are about 120lbs to 140lbs.

Being the owner of a bullmastiff who competes in dog shows, I'm 100% sure I know what one looks like.

reply

He's a Bullmastiff, end of. Mine's the spit of Spot! They $hit for England too.

reply

He is a fawn Bullmastiff. I got a Bullmastiff and i know it is !

reply

A Bullmastiff for sure.

reply

Nope he's actually an African Boerboel

A young woman got killed by a bullmastiff few years back in Finland. It was a sad case, especially since i heard that this breed is supposed to be very sweet with humans. The girl was walking her friend´s dog and dog just snapped and brutalized her lethally.

First time i hear about any violence from bullmastiffs. mine during 4 years has done nothing bad. a sweet smart boy, kind, you just caress him, he will enjoy for hours. it's a big kitten :)
i enjoyed the natural way the bullmastiff is shown in the movie - mine behaves same, can sit for hours looking at us talking as if he understands something. not stealing food, knowing his place in the house, listening to what i say. very obedient dog. who is really upset if he disappoints me however strange that may sound to people who dont have dogs.
not sure though he would be same outside with people he doesnt know. or if somebody tries to break into the house. though my friends walked with him, my relatives did, never any complaints - the dog waits for commands and happy to fulfill your wishes. everybody is always surprised how clever the dog is.

reply

Do you still have your bull mastiff? He sounds like the sweetest guy in the world! I love where you said he gets upset if he disappoints you. You obviously have a strong connection with him and have trained him well.

I normally like smaller dogs like English or French bulldogs, but the one in this film was so cute. I also like that he was athletic and a good runner.

Ultimately it comes down to how dogs are raised. There are no inherently vicious dogs, but certain breeds like pit bulls are raised to be attack dogs. Some dogs also become very protective of their owners, which can have good and bad results. If a dog is socialized well, he gets along with people and other animals and doesn't automatically see strangers as a threat.

reply

Why do you say Spot is a Boerboel? I don't think so -- I agree that he's a Bullmastiff.

reply

The original website lists "Bob" as a "Bull Mastif" or Bullmastiff. It say that he is very dark and was enhanced with a lot of light.

Fact is, regardless of breed of dog, they can be made mean. Just add the right amount of the "superior race" human, without the addition of a brain, and anything will snap. I have a Great Dane (who happens to be deaf) and i've had people tell me they've seen them dangerous. Mine believes she's on earth to prove that, if the world was ruled by deaf Great Danes, there would be no wars. She is 400 pounds of pure affection and diplomacy, stuffed into a 150 pound body.
I've met more aggressive people than aggressive dogs, and have met more dogs i can trust than people.
There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.
