Why it hasn't been released...

Seems the distributors don't trust this film to be successful, so they are having a petition, they want hundreds of thousands of names on it. The link is below! HELP ALAN, MIKE, ET AL! They Need US!

Petition for "The Search for John Gissing"

Another option is to contact the major video chains and ask them to ask for its release to DVD. It's all abt the money...for us it's abt the funny :-)

Just signed the petition.. Is any real progress being made that anyone knows of???

:/ i hope so..

reply

Not until it gets a load more signatures and we are talking geniune signatures, not the same person signing lots of times .

The producer does check the petition periodically and he has even signed it himself, but seems the fans don't really want the film.

A few lucky souls do have it. Mr. Binder was super kind enough to offer the DVD to a few ppl at the film festival last year in westwood, CA. During the Q&A after the movie, he said he hasn't released gissing on DVD because this movie is more of a "pilot" for a future/potential remake of the movie.

reply

Yep.

His brother Jack Binder (the Producer of the film) is still working on him to release the film though so there is always a chance.

This film is absolutely brilliant! I saw it at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose around 2002.
See my review of the film at: http://www.kaos2000.net/festivals/film/cinequest/2002/

There is no way that distributors could have balked and stalled at releasing this film. It got great reviews everywhere and audiences loved it. AND it has Alan Rickman. Come on!!

There's my two cents.

Just signed the petition. It's at 3210 now. Not enough to be impressive. Hoping that it works. Devoted Alan Rickman Fan.

Spread the word and get others to sign it too if people spread the word may be we will get enough signatures to be convincing.
