Alan... you're the greatest comedian!!!

Just watched this movie for the first time but certainly not for the last time!

Mike Binder is a GENIUS, as an actor in and the writer and director of this movie!

I think the entire cast did a great job but Alan Rickman tops it. He must be the greatest comedian in the United Kingdom. Forget his "evil" roles for a while... He really should do comedy, he seems so good at it!

Those who've seen this movie, do you agree?

It's so odd you should say that because I was just thinking that the other day. I completely agree that Alan Rickman is a gifted comedian. I love all his roles, but the ones I like the most are the funny ones. I can't ever get enough Dogma or Galaxy Quest. He's got great comedic timing, not to mention sarcasm and an attitude.

I haven't seen this film yet but I'm going to order it soon. I'm so excited they finally decided to release a DVD.

Anyone know of anywhere else to get it, or is it just the one website?

reply

As far as I know the link you have is the only website as far. I'm sure I can be mistaken!

In the beginning Galaxy Quest was not a favourite of mine but now it certainly is! Same way for Dogma, which I tought was utter *beep* but it so happens that I watched it over again, even though I thought it was worthless, and then I learned to appreciate, even love the story.

Then there are comedies which I loved from the very beginning like Blow Dry, an other comedy where Alan starred in but it has a serious undertone, some scenes are touching.

I'm sure you've seen Love Actually as well?

And then I'll highly recommend The Barchester Chronicles. Although it's not strictly speaking a comedy, the series is very funny, it will give you hours of fun! An absolutely must see! There are 7 episodes and Alan is appearing as from the third one. But you need to watch the first two to be able to understand the rest.

It is only available from that one website. That is because Sunlight Productions (Mike & Jack Binder) have decided to self-sell. From what you say you are going to love it, it really is a very funny film.

I ordered the movie and absolutely loved it! It was hilarious. My favorite part has to be the way he dances!

I thought the movie itself was very good, but some of the editing/post was a little messed up. The lighting was funny and the sound didn't match up at some points, but it was easy to get past for the sake of the film.

I was pleasantly surprised that the DVD even came with bonus features of outtakes and deleted scenes. I could have used subtitles though.

Have I plugged it enough? People should buy it now! haha

I have seen Blow Dry, which I like but isn't one of my favorites, and of course Love Actually. I'll have to check out the Barchester Chronicles though. It seems interesting. I'm actually desperate to see Snow Cake now. It's still not available in the US. :(

It is very funny, thanks for saying you liked it. Spread the word

Snow Cake is due on DVD in America in September.

Some of the editing you may be referring to is the "jump cut style" editing that they use periodically throughout the movie. Check out the Special Features, when Mike Binder talks with his editor Roger Nygard. They talk about this and lots of background, on and off set activities. Very cool.

I was able to get Snow Cake through my DirecTV on the IFC in Theaters channel. I'm not sure if they are playing it anymore, though.

I just ordered John Gissing right now. I hope I get it soon! I've just spent about $60 in the past few weeks on Alan Rickman movies, haha. Actually, mom got me Snow Cake per my request for my birthday. I've watched it twice already. AMAZING. I *highly* recommend it. Alan Rickman is in virtually every scene, and Sigourney Weaver is excellent, too. I'm excited for John Gissing. I hope I like it!

I'm sure you'll like it. I just got mine yesterday for $17 from Sunlight or wherever it was mentioned above. I've seen and enjoyed Blow Dry, where Rickman has a small role -- as a HAIRDRESSER!!! Now, you've got me jazzed for Snow Cake.

Liesebieke: No I don't agree.

echicaz: My copy was messed up too. I am glad I have it in my collection but won't watch it again.

ellene628: "jump cut style" Utter crap, looks broken. Stupid to do, when DVD's get scratched, they do the same thing.

I just watched this movie today, I rented it from Hollywood Video.

Alan Rickman RULES! Of course I already knew that, but he really is wonderful at comedy. It was so hilarious to see him dancing at the end because even when he does comedy, his characters are usually wound up so tight, but this movie actually had a bit of slapstick to it and I loved that!
