Were they shot/recorded before the movie's initial overseas release in 2002 (which didn't actually include the scenes) or were they not shot until right before they were tacked on the US release in 2006?

shareI assume they were shot in 2006 to promote the film in its North American release. I always believed this was never intended to be a TALES entry, and was converted later.

Sorry Wallace, you're mistaken. I first noticed it on imdb in 2000 titled "Tales from the Crypt Presents Ritual," so it was always intended to be a part of the franchise. Apparently when it was first released a few years later, however, there were no Cryptkeeper segments, so it's absolutely plausible that the footage was shot later. Unfortunately, there's always been a surprising dearth of information about this film.
