I didn't know that Judy Gardland's dad was a switch hitter. Was that common knowledge? I know Judy married two homosexual men in her life but I didn't realize that her father was a homosexual man also.

In the book she acknowledges that there have been rumours about his sexuality, but that she cannot know for certain. For this reason, she says, she doesn't even bother offering any speculation. The movie obviously offered a more decisive interpretation. But I assume that's a creative choice on the part of the filmmakers and not necessarily a direct representation of reality.

shareAnne Edwards Biography of Judy, which I read back in the '70's makes the claim that Frank Gumm was bi-sexual. That does not prove anything (nor IIRC does she provide compelling evidence), but it does show that this claim goes back at a minimum, 40 years, and Edwards must have had an earlier source to include this in her book.
