The end

In the end Nico is looking at the girl facing him on the train. However Dani looks at the 2 girls on the bach, than to the guy standing up. He decides to get up and walk to the beach. Does this mean, he is still insecure and doesn't know which side he's attracted to or am I thinking to far?

Oh yea great movie :)

My view on that is that he's even more certain about his sexuality after Nico has left, than he was before. He looks at the girls with a last doubt, and then to the guy. He seems to be more comfortable as he goes into the water.

Also remember what he told Nico when they had that fight and he locked himself in the bathroom. He didn't exactly utter the word "gay" but he didn't have to. Nico understood, more or less. Once Dani got his feelings out in the open, he could try to get over Nico. I always liked Julian though - he should be with him :)

Hey there!

I watched the movie yesterday and my opinion of the ending was a completely different one...

My impression was: Regarding the girls and the guy, Dani recalled what had happened to him that summer. The whole thing with Berta and that other girl, his moments with Julien. At that point he stands up and goes into the water. For me the scene had the meaning: He had had enough experiences with relationships and love and sex for the moment and at this moment his holidays really start. Maybe he will deepen his relationship with Julien, maybe he'll meet another guy, but for the moment he wanted to be a kid and enjoy the summer again, without starting another flirt.

Everyone can't be straight. Everyone can't be beautiful. Everyone can't be the same.

I think you're both right. He's still insecure and undecided, and he doesn't want to think about sex and relationships, so he goes into the water for a swim to get away from it all.

Sorry to sound like a know-it-all English major, but the ocean is sometimes a symbol of regression, because we first exist in the liquid of the womb, and the tides of the ocean are controlled by the moon, which also controls women's menstruation (not really, but in traditional folklore mentality it does). So Dani's final act of going into the ocean is a regression into a maternally-protected infancy, an escape from the pressures of sex and puberty.

Well, I guess that sounded a little crazier than I intended. Maybe I'm just full of it, ha ha.
