Anybody read the book? Opinions please!

I am almost done reading it, I am crazy about it. It beats Fifty Shades of Grey in so many ways.

I have all of French's novels and read Killing Me Softly years ago and thought it was great. Their signature style was there but it had a distinctly higher element of dangerous passion to it unlike the rest. I think the closest to that aspect of their others books was Secret Smile.

The movie disappoints when it comes to keeping the plot. Sure, it can be a sexy film, but the chemistry wasn't really captured between Adam and Alice onscreen the way it came off from the book. Maybe it was just Heather Graham, I don't know. The ending wasn't satisfying. I loved the way their relationship played out in the novel. It felt like the film was going to go that way but then they just changed it. Not enough danger from the novel, too much romanticizing of Adam (you've most likely read it all by now, so you know what I mean), and that in turn made the movie just full of ridiculous red herrings.

It's an entertaining enough movie to watch when passing the time, and I don't really nitpick differences from books that much but when asked to compare the two I guess I can't help it.

Standalone movie, it's fine. As an adaptation, it could have been a lot better.

Really it's such a shame out of all of the novels they have written, this has been the only wide-release feature. They've had some pretty great made-for-tv films, but it'd be nice to see another cinema release.

I read Secret Smile and I saw the tv movie with David Tennat, it was great but the book was better.

Any other French book I should try out that has hot sex and thrilling suspenseful mysteries?

Without You was a pretty decent adaptation of What To Do When Someone Dies.

The Red Room is one of my favourite books. Not exactly what you'd call sexy but the story, twists, and characters were great.

They came out with their first series awhile ago, 'Frieda Klein', starting with Blue Monday. So if you're interested in an ongoing story instead of a stand alone novel, I'd recommend that.

Catch Me When I Fall is a really great thriller.

It's odd, my favourite book is The Old Curiosity Shop and I love classics, or humourous books like PG Wodehouse or Stephen Clarke but Nicci French are my favourite authors just because I always enjoy their books and actively go to buy each new one that comes out so it's hard for me to narrow down the recommendations from their bibliography. lol

But Killing Me Softly stands out because it is their most erotic novel in my opinion.

The other books I mentioned are still worth a read. Great mysteries, great thrillers, everyone has different reading tastes, but I hope those are ones you'd enjoy if you got the inclination to check them out.

Thank you. I will look up on them and if you know any other thrill books like this one let me know here.

I want to write a thriller novel, I got an idea for one but I want to make sure that the idea is an original.

I don't know if you'll ever check back here. I haven't checked back on replies in forever, but No Night Is Too Long by Barbara Vine is a great thriller!

It really sucks you into the story.

Sorry bout the long wait. I've been cramming for finals and come on here only if I have a movie to add to my lists.
