The eyeball, the breakup, and the congrats

What's the deal with the eyeball? What does it represent? Why did Pluto break up with Ann? Did it have to do with his flashback of his wife? Why did the other detective congratulate Pluto near the end if he was really jealous of him? I'm only thirteen, so it's not my fault I didn't get so many things.

What's the deal with the eyeball? What does it represent? No idea.

Why did Pluto break up with Ann? He is constantly reminded of his late wife. A relationship wont work out like that.

Why did the other detective congratulate Pluto near the end if he was really jealous of him? Basic courtesy?

that's what i think. no rights or wrongs. but how u percieve them.

If dogout43 looks at this again . . . Some things are explained in the commentary track on the DVD (if you want to go through the trouble), but many things in the film are't clear (it has little to do with your age).

The eyeball was given to the director by a friend (I think), he liked it so he wanted to use it in the credits - it sets an odd tone and has an random path like his story. The detective has the eyeball because he comes closest to figuring out the reality of the mystery.

Pluto breaks up with Ann because his history (the shooting, not being able to save his family) leaves him feeling powerless and ineffectual in his life and he has low self esteem and doesn't think he could maintain their relationship or be good for her. Other events in the story help turn this around for him and give him a sort of retribution. (Again it's not all clear because it's not fully dramatized.)

Some reasons the detective congradulates Pluto because a) it's supposed to be surprising, b) the detective has maybe earned a little respect for Pluto, but mostly c) the director wants you to think of that character as someone superficial, who may be nice to people who are sucessful (even if he doesn't like them) so he can move up the job ladder as a policeman (from the commentary).

Couldn't help but think of the Eye of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings, but that's just me, I see Lord of the Rings everywhere.

That's cuz your on peyote. :)

Anyway, it was a very, very confusing film, and I'm guessing that the screenplay was either too short, or key scenes were cut (not that likely) or not filmed due to schedule or budget constraints (more likely)
