Dog Painting in Screenwriters' Apartment

I just watched the movie today on cable. In the scene where the two hired killers bust into the screenwriters' apartment, one of the killers walks through the (kitchen?) into another room looking for bags. As he walks through this room the camera shows a painting hangiong on the wall. It is of a dog done in oils I think. I know this is a VERY OBSCURE QUESTION but...I can recall as a child that painting and 3 others in its collection hanging in our house. I want to now if anyone has any info about those bizarre paintings and if they know who painted them? Please let me know. Thanks.

FWIW: I love questions like this!

Those things are kind of a cultural icon representing bad taste. I would bet very few people know where they originated.

I was considering purchasing the ENTIRE collection of the dog paintings as an anniversary gift for my in-laws who reside in Louisiana. I think it would be the ultimate finishing touch to their decorating theme, so if anyone knows the esteemed painter, please advise.

I just read your post today, and I hope you've already gotten the answer to your question. But, if not, the paintings were painted by C M Coolidge. Enjoy!

Many years later....I have just finished watching the movie. Before this one I saw "Big Eyes". Could the artist be Margaret Keane? CM Coolidge doesn't seem right to me. I won't sleep tonight not knowing.
