Giant plot hole

Why didn't the blackmailers just take the dead guy's brand new Corvette? It had to be worth at least $40k.

Why didn't Tilda Swinton's character, whose plot involved driving the car away her house, once think to tell them, "Oh yeah, the guy who owed you money owned a sports car. Take it and we're even, because if you broadcast or distribute the gay video of my son, you will face multiple felony charges for distribution of child pornography, as he is 17 and was filmed without his permission."

Or better yet, the blackmailers could have easily produced written records of debts the dead guy owed and filed a claim against his estate. The car and the club would have been auctioned and the estate settled. Boring I know, but they could have done everything legally.

Stealing the dead guy's car would implicate the loan sharks as the murderers. The Josh Lucas character owed a lot of gambling debts and the authorities would put 2-and-2 together at that point.

If Margaret didn't pay and the blackmailers turned over the tape, it wouldn't have proved anything. It would be circumstantial evidence in court - that is, if a case even did go to trial. I think she was more concerned about local ostracism, having her son outed and ruined reputations (he was enrolling in prestigious music schools) than a murder charge.
