Anyone else hate the main character?

His antagonizing ass got tiresome almost instantly.

I will say, the first 20 minutes of this film is great, after that it just doesn't really hold my interest, mainly due to that worm named Tarek.

He behaves this way to create conflict, and thus get more money for the story (did you miss the fact that he is a journalist?).

You are supposed to hate the prison guards, if you hate Tarek, maybe there is something wrong with you... I don't know. Through the film you will see what kind of person Tarek is; a good hearted and extremely sympathetic character.

reply

That's exactly why I hated him. He was paid to escalate the situation. He may have been a good natured guy but that doesn't change the fact that he still whored himself out for a damn story.

but that's the point. even the "hero" wasn't a moral guy. it's always bold if a movie doesn't give you any characters to like but if it's done right those can become masterpieces. i actually don't like moritz bleibtreu as an actor but i have to admit he pulled it off very well here.

reply

I loved his character personally, and I don't think anyone could've played him better than Moritz Bleibtreu.

It's unexplanitory how I getz wicked, but it's mandatory that I kick it!

Acctually i hated the character at the beggining because he made the other persons suffer if it wasnt cause of his behavior then no one would get hurt because it was the plan to get him and create all the caos.
But at the end i hated so much more Vernus because he didnt have any power at his real work so when they gave him a little of autorithy he went crazy like an animal he felt so powerful like he was God or something.
So at the end the only character i kinda didnt hate was Stainfoff all the other ones were hateable like the doctors and the guards and the other prisioners -.-

Tarek came across as an annoying attention-seeking agent provocateur who needed a good kicking.

And he had big fat greasy lips.

It was supposed to be a game... er an experiment. Having previously met the 'guards', he (like myself) thought that they would remember his humanity as well as their own.

I'd probably would have laughed in the guards face the first day or two. AND most definitely would've drank the milk of any one lactose intolerant! IMHO Tarek was only a nuisance after the guards were already tipsy on power. No sane guard is going to make a prisoner eat something they're allergic to. Geez, what if they were served peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, and a prisoner stated they were allergic to peanuts??? (Hypothetical, question but the answer would be a manslaughter by Day 1.)

reply

They were wrong in making him drink the milk, I agree but initially he didn't say he was allergic, only that he "didn't drink milk".

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

Angelina Jolie, and a host of other white people also have big fat greasy lips so I don't know how his comments can be seen as rascist in nature. Or, maybe it's only "big, fat & greasy" when men are the wearers of those size lips? LOL
