Omg so annoying

For everyone complaining about her having greasy hair/wearing no bra. And acting annoyed with Kerstin Dunst for this as if it was her decision and it was for shi*s and giggles...

Her character battled *deep depression* When you have bad depression, it can get as bad as not wanting to shower/clean your hair/look cute--- you give up on life pretty much, let alone personal hygiene. They portrayed that well in her appearance. It's not like Kerstin Dunst showed up to work everyday with greasy hair and no bra.

Fun Fact: There are these things called "makeup and wardrobe." (I know this because I have acted in two independent features so I am not blowing this out of my a$$, I lived through it. Plus this is sorta well known movie stuff but for those of you who obviously do not know any of it...)

In a film you go straight to makeup and wardrobe before every scene, before even stepping on set to film, you go into the RV for makeup room and wardrobe room. They take pictures of you and what you're wearing, every detail even the jewelry to see how your hair is styled, your outfit, your makeup (for continuity purposes, in case they need to film the same scene on a different day)

If you think actors have anything to do with how they look in a film you're extremely wrong. Especially characters that go deeper than being a high school student just having a romance. Those are films actors can look "cute and pretty at all times" if that is what the film and character calls for. Actors are basically a mannequin that the director and people involved in the film decide what they want them to look like at all times to portray the character they are filming. Actors might hate how they have to look in certain movies they do.

It still blows my mind people don't get this concept. Even if you dont know much about movies or behind the scenes and how they run. Whatever you see in a movie--- everything---the director has the final say. So if an actor/actress looks a certain way--- ITS ON PURPOSE.

So if you don't like it, if boobs and greasy hair really bother you that much, first of all grow up---or dont watch the film. But don't come here complaining like morons that omg she looks like shi* why on earth would Kerstin Dunst wanna look like that or show up to work like that. Seriously stop. It's not her choice, and it's also for her specific character.

Maybe they made a mistake switching off from 'Clueless'...

reply

Yeah they should stick with that if they can't muster the logic for anything else hahaha

I agree. While I do think she doesn't look her best in this movie, I actually think the look really suits her personality and frame of mind.

Nicole really reminds me of the best friend I had when I was 16. She was messed up and promiscuous but her appearance was also the same. Quite a dirty sort of look, unkempt, yet the boys liked her. Very similar characters.

reply

Definitely..... I actually had a friend like that as well. Weird haha. Well I am glad you recognize the good work they did put into her appearance for the role. I am sorry you had a friend with that kind of depression I know how difficult it can be.

reply

Looking back it must have been depression but she wasn't aware of it. She was just self destructive, promiscuous and wanting to try every experience possible good or bad. It didn't hit me until I watched this film that she was in a bad place. When I was 16 I just though she was kind of wild and selfish. Like KD she was very pretty, but like Nicole, barely washed her hair, wore a bra or changed into clean clothes. Interesting thread

The dad explains in the film in the scene when Carlos goes to that meeting for his referral to the pilots academy, that she suffers from depression mostly from her mom dying and that she has been self imploding for years.

reply

I think she was aware she had depression, her dad certainly was, she was just in denial about it. The partying, the drinking, skipping school was her way of ignoring the problem and not having to deal with it.
