First, I hope you'll excuse me for my poor english because I am sixteen too and... I am french.
Jamel Debbouze (your spelling was OK) is really one of the greatest french comedy actors of the moment and his humor is based of the words that he invents, his way of speaking (very quick) and his sense of improvisation.
All or at least almost all the jokes of the movie are the kind of jokes that the director Alain Chabat used when he was in a group of fantastic comedians called "Les Nuls" (if you can see some of their sketches or better the movie "La Cité de la Peur" you'll understand what I say). This humor is one of the most liked by french audience.
I haven't seen "Mission Cleopatra" in english but I suppose it is very poor when you compare it with the original. But it is the same thing with the american movies translated to french (and over all animation movies, you're right). Both are related to a different culture and are difficultly (does this word exist ???) translated and the result is not really good. But the only way for us to see american or english movies in the original version is to wait until the D.V.D. release.
Languages have their particularities and they are difficult to translate but I think the dubbing companies do the best the can to permit to everyone to see the movies in their first language.

I watched it in French with English subtitles. Although sometimes the subtitles were confusing but I still got almost all of the jokes. And yes, the movie is fantastic. I love ancient movies, period dramas, etc. I also like good humorous movies which don't include too much potty humor. This movie satisfied me on each of these levels.

Monica belluci as Cleopatra was excellent. She had that commanding personality required to play such a role. All the other actors were good too. The scenery and the sets were gorgeous. I have seen this movie multiple times now and love it more each time.
