Horribly mismarketed

I would really like to see this film, but I can't find it subtitled in a languge I fluently understand, with the ORIGINAL FRENCH audio (and WIDESCREEN)! Here are the results of my international DVD research:

* France/Canada - ONLY French subtitles
* USA - Couldn't find, but heard it's chopped & DUBBED
* UK - ONLY English DUBBED
* Germany - ONLY German DUBBED
* Japan - Original French, dubbed/subbed in Japanese, but NO English SUBTITLES
* Korea - Original French w/Korean & English subtitles, but FULLSCREEN.

My Japanese isn't good enough to read rapid subtitles, and even though my German is really good (and Germans do a MUCH better job of dubbing than Americans), I would like to be able to switch over to the ORIGNAL FRENCH audio. (I do enjoy watching French films, too, even though I am not presently interested in learning French.) I finally found that the Korean DVD DOES have English subtitles, but it's in FULLSCREEN! Non-original FULLSCREEN is just plain evil, which I refuse to purchase!

While the idiots responsible for marketing this film abroad have succeeded in Japan, they've failed the rest of the world miserably, and have therefore missed out on a very large potential market share! (I guess Mirimax is to blame for that in the English-speaking regions.)

Haha. Just tape it when it goes on tv. Or learn French. Or better: get the english subtitles from the web, download it or rent then transfer it to your pc. Then make a dvd and add the subtitles.

I do believe I have found what you're looking for on good old eBay....

This isn't coming out any time soon, but it's English subs with French audio and it's widescreen. I'll be buying it, that's for sure, despite already owning the 2 disc special edition French release, but I would like to be able to understand the rest of the jokes my French can't handle!

Did you check canadian releases? I'm sure I found it subtitled here :)

I watched this in the UK. Full French language, English subs. I then bought it on DVD, widescreen, full French with subs. I don't know where you're looking but its out there and easy to get, I paid about 3 quid for mine. I wasn't even aware that this got a English dub release in the UK. The OP need to 'chillax' as the young folks say.

I am looking for downloadable subtitles. I have Cleopatra and Caesar on DVD, but no english subs. My French is horrible. My German is fluent, but like a previous poster, i'd rather watch it in French with english/german subs.

Help please?!

Thanks

I'm looking for French with English subs every other year or so, and so far no luck. I think you really just have to watch it in French and, you know, not understand everything.

I've read your topic 3 times now and I still don't get it. So I'm asking:

What version are you looking for?

And please try to say it in one line, I'm not interested in your language skills, or the lack of it.

reply

I have been unable to find a DVD that meets this criteria:
* Original WIDESCREEN aspect ratio
* Original FRENCH audio
* English or German subtitles since I don't understand French (but I still appreciate hearing the original language)

You can buy or get the comic (comix) in your own language and the frenc original. Study both of them, your french will improve.

Scandinavia i think is the only place where you can get the DVD with widescreen image and french 5.1 audio. It does not have english or german subs though.
