The First Ending

I was wondering if anyone had any idea on what is actually said in the original ending. It is on the DVD, but the entier thing is dubed over with commetary, which made me sad. I may just be crazy, but I really wanted to know if there is any one that had any idea what is said.

What IS the original ending? My guess is...

SPOILER...maybe

Tom gets AIDS from the guy at the alcoholics anonymous meeting? I mean, it was hinted at so much. The bruise, the whole clinic thing, the fact that they even had sex in the first place...and it did seem like rape, did it not? Anwyay, that's my guess. I was really expecting it to end that way, but I was kinda glad it didn't. Not EVERY gay-themed movie has to have someone dying of AIDS.

here, here! It would've put it ina a completly different place for me (what is this, Beaches?).

And, yeah, I thought it was obvious it was rape. Maybe the ending was him and Eli dealing with that?

I think you can tell by how they both smile and seem happy when they see each other at the clinic that Tom is NOT positive. Then the receptionist tells them that Esther died.

I thought it was very snotty and self-important that the director and whoever else chose to yak all the way through the deleted ending.

No good....lousy - - a BEAST! OUT!!!!

totally agree! i wish dvd's would give the option to turn commentary off on ALL sections, not just the main movie

It was an awful and unnecessary alternate ending, I'm glad they did not go with it, why kill Esther? absolutely adds no value to the story and it would've erased the good feeling of Eli and Tom ending up together... I mean, what if there was an alternate ending in Pretty woman were Vivian falls from the fire escape and breaks her neck? how would that feel? and I agree on the AIDS thing, why end a sweet love story saying one of them is going to die? it's senseless, but even when the people in the commentary woulnd't shut up I think if Tom had been possitive he would've look depressed, they were obviously upset because of Esther, not the test results.

Yes, what the heck was up with the DVD presentation of the original ending? Why even bother to include it on the disc, if the director is going to talk over the entire thing, so you can't hear a single word of the dialogue? Idiotic decision.

But I still didn't get it anyway. Did Tom and Eli end up together after all? I know they met up at the clinic, and walked off into the sunset together, but that doesn't tell us anything. All that tells us is to make up our minds for ourselves. I really wanted to know.
